Savage MKII FV-SR, Boyds AT-One Update!

Taking an other look at the Savage FV-SR 22lr rifle, but now with the upgraded Boyds AT-One stock. I have to say so far I’m really liking this stock as its really firmed up the shooting characteristics of the rifle along with making it a lot more solid shooting it from a bi pod. Only complaint I can see thus far is I wish the pistol grip area was a little straighter, but that can hopefully be fixed with one of their “target” inserts…

  1. Nice try, would be nicer video if the target was the larger image rather than watching you. Also would be good if your audience knew where you were shooting, instead of guessing.
Just few things you need to do to make watching your videos bearable. My two cents for your content. 👍

  2. I have one that came in a Boyd's stock similar to that but not the at one and extremely disappointed groups are 2 in at 50 yards even with match ammunition every old 22 I have every Ruger 10/22 I have shoots better than this gun that was almost $500 I noticed it's a terrible design how the action mountains into the stock with a gap between it and the wood as far as where the action screws go in so you can never truly torque it

  3. So I’m shooting same gun with a weaver scope and CCI 40gr 25 yards, 50 yards i was shooting earplugs and got kind of boring. Then I started shooting 17 HMR casing at 50 yards as well then it got very interesting 75 yards steel prairie dogs, 100 yards steel prairie dogs , 150 yards steel square target, 200 yards steel target were amazing I was blown away on the accuracy. Great video.

  4. I bought one myself and currently shooting CCI through the gun and man is it amazing accurately it took me a little to get it sight in but once i got it it has become my favorite gun to shoot. Golf balls all day long 25, 50, 75 ,100 yards no problem.

  5. Good to know . I am picking one up so stay away from stingers 😆 I love the look of this 22 and really want it for my collection. Just got a savage A22 and like it a lot. Thanks for the video can't wait to get on the range with mine.

  6. Not trying to act smart, but I have an FVSR and other Savage Mark II variationa. I am not stretching things when I say that my groups with a factory stock, cheek piece and bipod shoots consistently one hole groups or one hole with one shot 1/4" out, generally .4" or lower, with the factory stock and the trigger set at bare minimum, CCI standard velocity, factory stock. Honest. Something is wrong here, either with your technique or something loose on the rifle. Your groups should be better, especially with the Boyd's stock. When accuracy degrades for me, it is invariably the barrel neads a cleaning with a copper strand on a cleaning rod to gouge out the lead, unplated lead bullets leave a lot of lead in the shallow rifling of the FVSR. Clean it out. If I were trying to improve the performance in this video, I would start with concentration on trigger pull and follow through, being in exactly the same position when the shot arrives as before it was sent. Personally, I would think the rifle couldn't shoot if I got similar groups. But I have too many Savage Mark IIs in my family to believe it could be the rile. Check make sure everything is tight. Shoot a group focusing on breathing. One area at a time figure it out.

  7. Did you have to get the trigger guard and floor plate for that mod? I'm looking at one of these stocks but it is kind of unclear as to whether I need those parts or not. I will share as much info as I can find. I can tell you my bolt handle is slightly different than yours. Mine has a ball on the end instead of a cylindrical shape like yours and is non-removable from the bolt. It does have an Accu-Trigger and is composite/plastic stock. The label on the box says it is MarkII FV 22LR BoltAction. Word for word. The Boyds website says this:
This stock is designed for the Sav93-E/MKII heavy barrel with inlet trigger guard and floor plate. Action measures 7 3/4" long on the 93E/MKII action. Pre-93E receivers (with a lug at the back of the receiver) can be fit to our 93E/MKII stocks but will require fitting of your receiver and barrel to the stock. Minor gap will be visible on rear of stock with older pre-accutrigger actions. Older receivers are about 4 inches longer and will need to be fit. Variations in action mounting screw pillars exist between models. Do not over tighten. All plastic stocks, and some laminate and hardwood stocks will require you to purchase a different trigger guard and floor plate.
So are the Sav93-E and the MKii the same platform/rifle? And in your opinion. Do I need the extra parts or not? Any useful insights would be greatly appreciated. Nice build you have there btw. Well done! Thanks in advance.

  8. High velocity rounds are going to wander. You need to stay subsonic and try and stay 10-20fps different between rounds and see what shoots best. My fv will put 5rnds all touching at 50yrds. I’m consistently hitting 3.5×2.5in targets at 150yrds. For me aguila seems to do best out of what I’ve tried.

  9. Each manufacturer has different lubrication for their 22 ammo. Maybe you need to give each ammo change enough rounds to establish itself in the barrel before making an evaluation. I have a boyds Varmint Tacitcool stock on my FV-SR. I bedded the rifle into that stock and have a little better accuracy. ditto on the CCI Std. Velocity ammo. works great. Did you get the DIP bottom metal to go with it? Experimenting with the torque on the action screws makes a HUGE difference. Start at 14 inch pounds work up and don't exceed 24.

  10. useless video , '' we are going to compare targets '' .. then its .''oh I do not have any of this , '' and hell did not even hold the targets to compare .. did you just see the waste of $$$ on that stock and rushed it to the end .. ???

  11. Federal target bulk pack and I can get 1/2” at 50 all day long but you gotta shoot at least 200 through before testing accuracy so the barrel gets fouled up with it before it starts shooting good. Also shoot some Ci competition because it too is a solid lead 40 grain bullet. This is out of a custom ER Shaw barrel 10/22 so not a savage but still should have better accuracy with a bolt gun as compared to a semi-auto

  12. I have the Mark II FV-SR also. Factory stock, Plinty 4-16x scope, bipod. It shoots everything fairly well and shoots CCI standard velocity into dime sized five shot groups all day long, every day. Something is loose on your gun, the action screws or the scope mounts or the scope internals. The rifle is way better than you're shooting. Are you following through the shot, watching the bullet print on the paper before you stop?

  13. I have the same rifle in standard stock it came with. When I first got it it was shooting like that then I worked on improving it. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I glass bedded the stock. To me, the stock that it came with was too rubbery to easily moved. So glass bedding the stock made everything stiffer and increase accuracy. Another thing I tried was different types of muzzle brake since it came threaded that also increase accuracy. I also install a higher cheek rest that made it more comfortable for me to shoot.. The last thing I did was to lap the rifled barrel a little. Now if I do my part I can hit a squirrel's I at 81 yards. The rifle shoots better than me that's all we can hope for on a 22LR rifle.
