Retired Navy SEAL Mark “Coch” Cochiolo demonstrates how to cold bore sight a red dot. Bore sighting is another way to zero your red dot so that your shots hit somewhere near your intended point of impact.
Keep in mind, that this is not a precise zeroing process. Cold bore sighting is another method to ‘get on paper’ similar to the method shown by retired Army Ranger, Dave Steinbach. (

I've been fighting with a dot on a SBR all day I'll try this, thank you
Very useful. Thanks!
I have always done it with bore laser and clamped in a leved vice
So when cold sighting should I be doing it at 50 yards or 25, I just shoot for fun but I can’t seem to hit paper at 100 yards😂 so if I zero at 50 will it be close enough 🤣 I’m new to sighting in usually dad did it but he’s gone now and he didn’t teach me
This really helped I thought about getting a laser bore sight but this saved me money and it's free.
Nice video
This is fantastic! I just added a red dot to an AR15 and was so worried about having to clamp it down so I could adjust the sight without moving where the barrel was pointed at. It never occurred to me that it doesn't matter. I love the simple explanation and sticking with the basics.
Awesome. I have used the chamber lasers a lot and found them to be fairly inaccurate. I’m excited to try this method.
Hey what stock is that?
Appreciate this instructor. Expert, humble, and informative.
Mark this is so basic and incredibly elementary. I’ve never thought of removing upper and getting my rough BZO this way. I mess with lasers and and tapes and yada yada so on so forth and this quickly works so god damn well in half the time. Way smart brother. My Frogman Buddy Frank Montanyo retired Warrant turned me on to the Sig Optics – great optics I ain’t got to sell a kidney to acquire. Thank you. Blue Skies

what would be the best bore sight distance?
i have the same red dot and another sig red dot and both my elevation and windage dont move my sights do you have any idea wat i may be doing wrong?
thanks bro!! 💪🏼🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks that was much gooder than the typical navy preventative maintenance training.
Great stuff!
I have a reflex sight and with a boresight I just matched it up using the longest hallway in my house…. Approximately 35 paces in a shotgun style house… Long hallway with rooms on either side. Not sure how this will translate to target practice at the range. Am I gonna look like a crazy man blasting off at a target such a short distance on a rifle range?
Good stuff. Just building an AR10. And wondering how to bore sight it. Must remember. KISE Keep it simple Einstein.
Went to the range today with a 105, hadnt seen your vid yet but I was aiming low towards the right waste line and hit anwhere from center mass to the head with the red dot.
I like that I was hitting the target but I didnt like that I to adjust to the center/head because my sights not zero and my gun didnt come with rear iron sights.
Many thanks very helpful sir.
Outstanding guide that every shooter should be aware of. You don’t always have a laser or zeroed sights to start with. This approach is great b/c it can be done in the garage or field whenever needed . And testing with ammo adds too many variables.
Was taught this back in 2007 in my first platoon. Went into a sew shop right outside of Schofield and found a 5.56 bore laser for $5, I swear by using lasers to bore sight optics before going to the range now. You just want to set up a target at the desired range that you plan on zeroing at the range when you boresight with your laser.
This is great Coch, new skill learned brother thanks.
I have seen a few other videos so far that this guy makes. This, like those, is to the point. I have subscribed. I am looking forward to more from Tactical Hyve.
Thx for the tip, it’ll be helpful before heading to range!
I actually boresighted my irons the night before we did group and zeroing in basic.
I used the farthest street lamp I could see through the barracks window to zero up with. The light was easy to center through the bore.
I shot a total of 6 rounds the next day lol.
forgive me for saying this, but good gawd he's a fine looker. whew… and thankful for the review.
Great information Thanks
