I think if you have a good upper( barrel, rail, gas system, and bolt). And you comnine that with a lower of a m4, you could have a solid distance rifle with the ability to fire full auto in close quarters.

I like both to be honest, the AR platform is just a fantastic platform. But given the choice, like everything else I buy, I always go for the military grade option.

For the record I deployed twice and we never used the burst switch in real life. It was almost always a waste of ammo especially since after that first shot your not really on target anymore there not effective. Single shots with a good follow up was always more desirable.
