I've built all of my AR's. My first was an Anderson lower receiver that I paired with a PSA kit, not the most expensive but it's been used and abused and still runs. My current go too is a AR15 chambered in 6.5 Grendel that I built using a sharps brothers livewire lower and a host of other goodies.
All that to say, there's no shame in getting a PSA and then buying a bunch of ammo. Think of it as learning to drive a Honda civic before you hop into the seat of a Lamborghini.

surprisingly useful content especially to a beginner: I wish I would have knew more about AR's befor I bought my first AR, maybe then I would have to be going back and speending more on it, to build it how I would have wanted it. I strongly suggest that even a newbie build their first AR-15 as it will be a learning curve but it will teach you everything you need to know about the firearms itself plus the self satisfaction of knowing you built/assembled it which in turn you will value it more.

If your under 21 but over 18 don’t bother trying to build your own ar, although you can buy a AR rifle at 18, you need to be 21 to buy a lower, even if it’s not being sold as a pistol lower.
