9mm CMMG RDB Headspacing

In this video, I am using an unmodified factory CMMG barrel and BCG. A dummy round is in the chamber. Using a rod pushing on the bullet, you can see there is excessive headspacing slop going on. I think that the ejector springs are failing because of this slop. You can imagine that when the round is fired the ejector must be encountering a lot of shock due to this slop. Some people are in excess of 4K rounds with the original spring and I think they may have significantly less slot than seen here. I have (2) 9mm CMMG RDB BBL/BCG combos and (1) in .40SW and all 3 of them do this. Likewise, I’ve had ejector spring failures around the 1K mark in all 3 builds.

  1. Did you remove the ejector for this test? Can I use a fired casing instead of a dummy round? Thanks!
My 5" CMMG RDB builders kit shows the same movement but I didn't remove the ejector nor did I have a dummy round or spent casing.
