Coming in around $500, the Journeyman rifle looks great, but how does it actually perform?

  1. I bought their 9mm AR upper had an ejection issue sent the bolt back and they sent me a new one so I was happy about that and their prices. I am looking at getting this rifle so thank you for this review

  2. I know this is nit picking but the term "budget" doesn't mean cheap. Someone's budget could range at around $5000 and that's not cheap at all. Affordable is more appropriate. Everyone's budget is different.

  3. I bought an unassembled upper kit from them. Stainless diamond fluted, 16" carbine gas system, stainless barrel.. went together perfectly. fit to another mfg's lower perfectly.. 600 rounds later, not a single malfunction
As accurate and reliable as my BCM, Roscoe, and Faxom builds…. Fwiw

  4. 1st- thanks for the YSS help. My family is from Ames, and I know how much good they do over there. 2nd- I purchased a 350 legend upper from Davidson Defense. My ONLY complaint is that the 18", heavy profile barrel is just that, heavy. As far as accuracy, I routinely thoot 1 moa groups it out to 150 yards. That'll be dood enough for any Iowa Deer hunter.

  5. Pssssst! Here is a secret, for when the folded rear sight interferes with the standard charging handle: loosen the sight and move it forward a notch or two! I wish we could have seen what the opened sights looked like; some of us don't like optics. You are getting kind of snobby with a $500 dollar package!……………………….elsullo

  6. The gun seemed to shoot well. From a lot of reviews I read about Davidson defense is that they make c*** guns and the components are not up to par with some of the other budget companies. Be curious to see what your thoughts are after a 1000 rounds.

  7. They are also known as Delta team tactical and Omega tactical. As a gunsmith I've been telling people for years that their stuff isn't bad at all. I only have ever bought upper build kits and lpk's for the most part to keep customers on a budget in their price range. Doing this allowed for more budget elsewhere including setup and accurizing which produced rifles that would outshoot almost any mid range ar off the shelf. I do go through every part with pin gauges, calipers, and micrometers to ensure they meet my standards before assembly so I can't speak for their out of the door assembly practices. I own a 6.5 grendel build that I used their barrel and upper kit and a few of their 80 lowers on other builds just for apprehensive customers to try out. The grendel is a tack driver and I actually use that same stock on it. Recoil basically doesn't exist with it and a 20" barrel weighing the muzzle down. They're also great source for buffer tubes and bcg's. Really any small parts.

  8. I would love to see a poor review considering how expensive everything is getting now A-day so I understand if you want to be up before the ability to do so means I'm soon but I would really enjoy seeing a fulle review of that

  9. I have Davidson defense 3.5lb drop in triggers in a lot of my ar builds and have had no problems with them. Also, have a couple of uppers from them in 350 legend as well and just got done with a hawg hunt with it.

  10. I’ve bought parts and an upper or two from Davidson Defense, through Delta Team Tactical. A $175 9 mm upper, too. I’ve used that stock, I even have that grip. And the lid got tossed away on mine as well. For CHEAP stuff, it’s decent. None of the parts I’ve bought have broken or failed.

  11. Hey Chris, first off great, no bs review 👍.
Second, I've got a question for you.
From my first AR in the Army (I'm edging into the latter half of my 60s) to the (omitted # now) I now own and shoot, is there anything that extends the length of pull without expensive customization?
I'm your size if not bigger and my basketball length arms cry out for relief.
I have an Adam's Arms AR 10 patrol battle rifle that I love but it's built on a 15 platform so have the same problem.
I'd appreciate any info you, or others could give me.
In an aside, love the beard. I used to have one like it but all my red disappeared! It's white now!

  12. The most important thing is reliability right out of the box. If a rifle isn't reliable exactly as it comes from the manufacturer, it's not really a rifle; it's just a kit that comes with most of the parts for a build project.
I'd really like to see a thousand round review of the DD15.
