Itβs the magazine! Itβs lose in the mag well! Tape or Velcro will help fitment and increase reliability. Check out my channel to see what Iβm talking about! Iβm also running a frt in mine and Iβm not having and jamming issues anymore that was cause by magazine slop!
Interesting to see you have problems running the CMMG Conv. Kit. Mine runs very well with cci 40 or 36 grs, allthough it took a break in period, but after a few houndred shots it started to run very well. There's one thing to think about, first you need to pull the charging handle fully back and then let it snap in order to seat the first round nicely, the springs aren't super strong and with that method I hardly get light primer strikes on the first round. Then I had to get used to let the trigger reset fully, the spring tension on this system is rather weak so in order to have it funtion well, fully await the reset, needs getting used to. With those things done, my system has run well for the last 2 years. I use it as a training tool for drills n transitions to the pistol. Even ran some dynamic trainings with the system – I quite like it and save a ton on hard to get 223/556 where prices in switzerland are like 800-1000 for 1k of rounds. As 22lr is filthy ammo, by the end of the day I swop out the cmmg and shoot some 556 to blow out the system, then it will gunk up the gun a little bit less. When I clean the gun I wipe the internal surfaces of the upper with an oiled rag und with that it takes little effort to clean it after use with the 22lr ammo. The upper is filthy from residue affter shooting a couple of houndred shoots of 22lr. The 22lr feeding ramp needs some cleaning too as it gets sticky from the bullet coatings. I only disassemble the cmmg carrier after more than 1k of 22lr shots fired, doesn't need more cleaning.
Have you tried running different mags
AR Catch22 offers bolt catches for .22lr converted ARs so you can hold the bolt open without the mag. Can we send you some to try out?
You need a aftermarket trigger to make it reliable. Needs harder hammer
I ran mine for a whole outdoor winter league and used Federal copper plated 36 gr. hp's exclusively. They ran and ran and ran even in the cold. But from your video it sounds like you think it's a mag spring issue.
I've always wanted to get a .22lr conversation kit for my AR. Hmmmm π€
Conversation kit looks like a waste of money. Cool your range let's you run 5.56 indoors. We used to have an indoor range for rifles. Can't imagine the noise level.
I've had better luck with Black Dog Machine magazines. Also McFadden lighting grip speed loader will save your life. My biggest problem is point of impact is way off from 5.56.
It's disappointing to see these have issues. I've been waffling back and forth between picking up this conversion kit or a 10/22 for an Appleseed event later this summer….might have to play it safe and go with the Ruger.
Hmmmm, strange? Sure acts like the springs are weak.
I bought one of these a couple years ago and it's definitely picky with ammo. I ran CCI mini mags and it ran great in my 16" barrel AR. I keep saying I'm going to take it out and do a review but I haven't yet. I want to run it on a pistol, 16" barrel and a 20" barrel
I have had one for 6 years or so. Mine has been awesome. The springs in my mags are pretty tight. I use a ton of automatch and other bulk ammo with no problems.
It took me a couple rounds to the range to get mine sorted out and since then it has worked great.
Their conversion kit is fantastic. I didn't realize until recently that 22lr is actually a couple thousands larger in diameter than 556/223. It isn't too big for a 556/223 barrel.
Did it run? I can't wait… On my lunch hour now.
