Rifle Slings: WHAT to get, WHY to get it, and HOW to run it

UPDATE: New WPS Rifle Sling now available:

In my opinion, a fighting rifle is not complete until it has a good sling. Finding the right sling can be a challenge, but it doesn’t have to be. There are a lot of slings I despise such as 3 point slings, other slings I prefer not to run such as single point slings, and then there are my beloved 2 point slings.

I prefer the Vickers Sling by Blue Force Gear and Larry Vickers for reasons I will discuss in this video, however there are other good slings I would use such as: The 5.11 VTAC 2 Point Sling by Kyle Lamb of Viking Tactics; the D3 Sling by Travis Haley of Haley Strategic; the MS4 or MS3 Sling by Magpul Dynamics.

  1. If you havent decided on a single point sling or a two point sling, the Magpul MS3 Single QD Gen2 sling is great. You can run it as a single point or two point so long as you have the qd attachments.

The magpul ASAP qd attachment is also fantastic for single point allowing for ambidextrous movement.

Run whatever way works best for what your planning on doing.

  2. Put your QD from your sling on the right of your stock. It is considerably easier to manipulate and manage your firearm. Just try it. You won’t have to get out of 2-point security in order to shoulder your weapon on either shoulder…. Big plus!!! – you won’t strangle yourself.

  3. Love the video! Good info. For some reason all your video's are great!
I have a single point sling on my A2, 16 inch carbine. Love it! My M4 is a 20 inch scoped rifle with 45 degree BIUS and is on a bipod, no sling… yet. My AR10 is a 24 inch stainless bull barrel and is heavy! It sports a stock and pistol grip for long range shooting. It also sits on a bipod and sports an LR scope, no sling. It travels in a roller case.
I go back and forth on single point and two point slings and attachment points. Tomorrow maybe I may feel different…

  4. If you like the Magpul MS1 but like the pull tab idea, you can drill a 1/4 hole in the end of the slider where the lined knurling is and run a paracord cow hitch through it with what ever kind of pattern you like. I basically just made a 4 inch blood red (color distinction) zipper pull with a turks head. Might put a basic step weave on it for a little more material to grab, but it works really well and I like how smooth the MS1 is. I tried a Vickers but you have to wrench the thing to get it to slide. Don’t get me wrong though, it seems like a solid sling. But my Magpul modification works really nicely.
