CMMG 22LR in AR15, eliminating bullet jams with a small mag modification

I’ve run many rounds through the CMMG AR15 22LR conversion kits. These are fine products and I will buy more in the future. My issue was due to the mag movement in the mag well. It was enough to cause a change in the angle of the bullet to the feed ramp. I stumbled on the solution due to a student holding the mag to support the gun, when she pulled the mag to her body the gun would jam, when she pushed the mag forward it worked as expected. I used a commercial glue to increase the size of the mag and make it hold firm with much less wiggle. The mag will not drop free with the mag release, but I will take the reliability of the gun and practice pulling out the mag on reloads.

  1. Where exactly did you stick the glue? I believe you said on the back side which would keep it pushed forward. But how far up or down the magazine? Near the top? Near the bottom where it enters the mag well? And once you do this, do the magazines drop free or do you have to pull them out? Is it causing any wear on the magazine well?

  2. This was my idea before watching this… First try used 5 minute 2 part epoxy… NO GO!! so this time i will try your method. thanks for posting this. I hope it works. 🙂

  3. This is an FYI for everybody. I had a viewer suggest I try the Black Dog Machine LLC mags for this kit. I ordered them in from Midway USA. They fit tighter in the mag well and drop free. They are 32 rounds, have steel feed "lips", and a slide load assist. I've had NO issues right out of the box. Thanks for the feed back, I hope this helps

  4. I did this …It works. E 6000 glue and let set up for 3 days. One mag was still a tad loose so I added more glue and that took cair if the problem.
how to!!! Insert mag in mag well mark on the mag it self with a pencil . Between the mark and the top of the mag add glue. A thick beed let dry real good and itsert the mag again if it is hard to insert trim a tiny amount of glue off. The back to front movement will be gone. YOU DON"T NEED HALF THE TUBE OF GLUE !!!!
