Bore sighting your rifle is a simple way to establish an initial zero to get you on target faster and save you ammo at the range. And, despite what you may have heard, it doesn’t take a ton of gear or ammunition. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to bore sight, when bore sighting is a good idea, or you just want a refresher on the process, join Jimmy for a step-by-step guide.

  1. You mean, the reticle is pointing lower RIGHT corner of the steel, and you will have to move it up and to the left 4:18
This is a good method, been using it for years. Just a tip: if both, your bore and your reticle are pointing to the ceter of the target, first shot will always be low, like it is in your video.

  2. I returned home after sniper school in 99 and visited with my cousin who is disabled. He put a new scope on his 30-06 but couldn't get it dialed in. We stopped and I walked 100 meters off the road (the joys of rural life), put a beer bottle down, then used this to get him in the general area. He told me recently he has not changed anything on that rifle since and has never missed his target.

  3. Just put a vortex scope on my Weatherby 308. Still haven’t brought it to the range. Used a laser bore sight to get the scope close. The nice thing was the laser bore sight gave me a projectile computer program to calculate drop based on the ammo that I’m actually using (7.65 nato vs .308). I intend to use the gun for shorter distances, primarily on deer in the northeast (VT) so I’m working on 100 yards. The drop (and projectile height above or below) over 100+ yards in the woods is fairly insignificant on deer.

  4. I’ve been doing this for over 25 years. Learned it from the old man who’s been doing it for over 50 years. It’s always fun to show people how to do it and their amazement to how it works. I usually have people sighted in within 3 shots.

  5. i just skipped a vid where someone worked with a ammo calculator( i guess taking the ballistic curve in to account) …that can be done from a chart…..he worked his way out from 25 yards, a viet veteran! so shooters don,t actually know at all what they do….this dude makes far more sense! i guess i look through my bore and should ( if available) check a ballistics chart for elevation to the distance i shoot at…so i can preset my scope…left to right zero acc. to the bore( we hope it shoots fairly straight…) then altitude on the way to the target…so we close as narrow to where we should be….🤷‍♀️if there is no hit anywhere near then s.th. is terribly wrong…actually easy once one knows it,,,like this vid! nobody actually tells that simple things …
