Yesterday, the House General Laws committee voted to pass House Bills 1462 and 1660, to ensure law-abiding citizens may carry firearms for self-defense on public transit. They will now go to the House Rules-Legislative Oversight Committee for further consideration.

House Bill 1462 and House Bill 1660 remove the prohibition on law-abiding citizens carrying firearms for self-defense on public transit property and in vehicles. In addition, they allow law-abiding citizens to transport unloaded or non-functioning firearms on buses. These bills repeal an arbitrary “gun-free zone” that does nothing to hinder criminals while leaving law-abiding citizens defenseless, and they also ensure that citizens with varying commutes throughout their day, and of various economic means, are able to exercise their Second Amendment rights and defend themselves.
