You’ve seen this AR-15 in a lot of our videos. Sometimes it just provides “atmosphere,” sometimes it’s used to demonstrate aspects of the AR-15 operating system. So many of you have asked about it that Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant finally gives us a tour of his favorite personal AR-15. He tells us about each part on the gun and explains why he chose it. Some highlights: The upper and lower receiver are a matched, machined-from-billet set from Midwest Industries (alas no longer in production). Elftmann AR-15 Service Trigger with extra-power hammer spring. A5-length Magpul UBR stock with a Geissele Super 42 carbine buffer and spring requiring a special spacer Caleb machined from a block of Delrin. Cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined, FN USA barrel paired with a mid-length gas system to make this rifle reliable and soft-recoiling. Streamlight ProTac 2 weapon light on a low, LOW Midwest Industries offset mount. Trijicon 1-4x LPVO anchored securely by an American Defense cantilever scope mount.

What about that funky blue-anodized Odin Works extended mag release? Caleb explains how it got on his AR-15 – and why it stays there. More highlights: a suitably dirty Lantac bolt-carrier group, Midwest Industries 17½” M-LOK handguard, Bravo Company pistol grip, Odin Works Atlas Muzzle Device, Patriot Ordnance Factory Tomahawk ambidextrous charging handle, and a Battle Arms Development BAD-ASS ambi safety selector.

  1. I feel your pain….I am right handed…I do everything with my right hand. But shoot a rifle…which is left hand…got to love that left eye dominant…but on the other hand I do like your build…it kinda looks like my 556 build. But I used the EOTech vudu 1 to 6…1 thing I do like about the AR platform,, u can make the rifle yours, how u see it…..but u do need to clean it more often 😁

  2. It wasn't mentioned but I noticed the ambi bolt release. Looks like the PDQ one. You have to machine a slot to allow room for it to come out the other side of the receiver but I think its worth it. I put one on one of mine because my wife shoots left handed. I actually like it even though I'm right handed because I can reach it with my right index finger just like when reaching for the mag catch. Good video. Its relatable because I feel like almost all of us have that one or two parts on ours because we are "too lazy" to swap it with the one we actually want.

  3. Nice piece of kit Caleb. I hate colored anodized parts as well. I really like that set up on the light, I'm gonna switch my mount out for the one you have. Thanks for showing that beautiful rifle man.

  4. Nice set up.
So how wrong am I to have my light mounted on the left and I'm a right hand shooter?
I don't run a pressure pad. I just push the tail switch with my support hand.

  5. I'm such a fan of this rifle, and appreciate you answering my past questions. Unfortunately I do have a follow up so here we go. 😉 I noticed with the atlas comp that it has a small vertical comp port, but its possible to time it so the vertical port can be covered by the outer titanium jacket. Is it safe to assume that you did this since the MI handguard now hangs over that port? Thanks again!
