  1. I'm curious, but why wouldn't this optic be usable for long range shooting if it has BDC markers and holds zero well? Granted I understand that serious long-range bench shooters have crazy magnification on their optics, however I don't see why you couldn't hit out to 800 or even 1000 yards if it's mounted on a larger caliber 1 MOA or better rifle. I just scored one at Academy today for $169 if I remember correctly (I still need to pick it up tomorrow), however I used a $30 discount AND I get a $100 academy gift card with it. So it all kinda came together nicely for me. I'm using this to replace a super basic Weaver optic that came on my new Savage Axis .308 rifle. I probably won't invest too much more in this rifle as I plan on getting a Thompson Center Compass II in 6.5 CM once ammo prices come back down to reasonable levels. Until then I'm just plinking with NATO spec ammo which it shoots rather well at around 1.7 to 2 MOA. If I can find affordable ammo that shoots at 1 MOA or below I perhaps will get a Boyd's stock or at least do some modifications to stiffen the current stock so I can use a bipod without the stock touching the barrel. I lucked out on my trigger in that mine is actually crisp with zero mush coming in at 3lbs. So I am hoping that this Vortex Vanquish optic will let me more easily ring some gongs out to 800 meters (letting the barrel cool down after every 5 rounds).

  2. The vanquish does have a focus. I thought it didn't, until I looked at it. Put it on a rifle and bore sighted it at 100 yards. No adjustments were needed. Hands down better the a Nikon and Bushnell.
