There are two major components that will likely determine the performance of your AR-15: the barrel and the bolt carrier group.
In this video I go over the basics of the AR-15 Bolt Carrier Group: what the markings mean, what to look for, what makes a good one, what makes a bad one, and recommend a few brands that I’ve had good luck with over the years.

Daniel Defense has a great rep in the BCG arena (they just ask a premium on them)…as well as their rifles
Great video Brother.
You were clear, concise and conveyed all the information in Layman’s terms that are easy to understand , digest and remember.
Thank You for your candor and clarity.
Keep the videos coming Brother !!!
Good information, thanks again
I've seen some decently priced BCGs meeting all the specs in your video, with the exception of Nitride instead of chrome lined bolt&gas key ports. thoughts on nitride?
Is the psa bcg in this video chrome lined?
STAKING THE GAS KEY IS NOT NECESSARY! See Young Manufacturing and Smith Enterprise.
1.Spike's Tactical
2.Palmetto State Armory (premium ones)
3.Colt
4.Bravo Company
These are the companies He recommends at 8:05
I have a 20" Bear Creek Arsenal 223 Wylde chambering. It was an excellent price and I wanted to try a 223 Wylde so I picked it up. Can I swap out the complete bolt carrier group if I wanted to? Barrel length- caliber make any difference? Thx
How are your ears? Lol, I don't imagine the muffs were very effective with the sunglasses breaking that seal.
I know you could have compared more brands, types, Enhancements than just 4 BCGs!
I'm a Quality Manager for a gun manufacturer which produces thousands of BCG's. You're video was the only one which I've watched which mentions good quality control. There are defects in the BCG which people have no clue about, but should really be checked for other than what you mentioned. For instance missing internal gas grooves on the carrier itself. People must remember that these are machined parts and you have no idea the crazy things that happen during the machining process. Also keep in mind that the gun manufacturing industry isn't regulated, so there's no real standards enforced when it comes to selling defective products. So check your components well. It could save your life.
It’s a fucking rifle you dumb shit not a platform
What's the best steel for the bolt carrier group. Also how would you rank nib fail zero, aim surplus nib , and bcm. from 1st to 3rd?
…but does NiB or the new nitride last longer before surface needs to be re-treated???
At 0:03 What magazine is that?
Do you have a video on the SRC XPB ?
Did you like Failzero carrier
Toolcraft
VT fan huh ? Me too unless they play my Volunteers . Nice review I go BCM always, as usual very informative . Thanks
I HAVE AN Anderson BCG and Anderson receiver. Both are brand new. I noticed the bolt DOES NOT move freely. It is very stiff. Is this normal??. The receiver is RF85 but should the bolt be so stiff?? It has not been shot in my AR yet. Should I be worried??
In the intro of your video, where did you get your sling???
Aero Precision Nickel Boron BCGs with 9310 bolt?
I've never seen an 8620 bolt. The carrier is always made of 8620 not bolts. Either 158c, 9310 or S7
Great info. Thanks. I'm building an AR-15 right now and needed information on choosing a BCG.
So if PSA has a Carpenter 158 and 9310 bolt for the same price, get the 9310?
Can you elaborate a little further on The PSA premium BCG, from what I looked up, they all show as premium. Am I missing something? I am going with your recommendation. Thanks for the great reviews.
