The 4Sevens Preon 2 and the Streamlight Stylus Pro are high value flashlights. Both are powered by two AAA batteries (supplied with both lights) and are “penlight” style designs, making them easy to carry. In this video I discuss and compare the specs, operation, and features of each light. We’ll also do a lighting test both inside a building, and outdoors.
I use both these lights in my extended EDC system. The Preon 2 in a pocket, and the Stylus Pro in a pocket organiser as a backup (or perhaps for use by another person in an emergency situation). Whilst I have not had to use my light in an emergency, I have used it often in the normal course of the day. I really enjoy the convenience of having this lighting capability on hand.
If you are looking for a penlight for your EDC either light would be a great choice. The Preon 2 packs in more features and capability, the downside is that it is more expensive. The Stylus Pro may not have all the bells and whistles, but it is a very good light, simple to operate, and great value.
Don’t find yourself left out in the dark, be sure to include lighting capability in your EDC system.

Nice light◔◔>share4.photo/Streamlight?Л  I prefer the Microstream for ultimate portability, but wanted a small light that was a little brighter. This fits the bill, and still carries very easily in a front pants pocket.

Same battery, same size, very different burn time, beam and price. Excellent comparison.
olight m21x….. not a pen light but will screw your retina on strobe with 600 lumen of bad boy brightness
Cheers mate
Kick ass review, buddy thanks!!
Not sure about that light, don't have. I'll have to look it up. To get 4 sevens gear here I have to import it and have not done that lately. Thanks for the heads up on the new light, I'm going for a look now 🙂
Thanks for your upload of these lights, which was brilliant, no pun intended.
Liked it more than most because you showed them in use, though it would have been better if you had shown them in use shining around the room and around the garden as you walked more.
Don’t ever say sorry for any long videos!!!! You make good vids with lots of detail.
120 Lumens, seems to be less than the USA one.
Are you going to review the latest penlight from 4sevens takes 2 AA and has 180 Lumens.
Thanks for the upload, great review.
You're very welcome. Thanks for the kind words.
Yes sir I most assuredly did. Wasn't even aware of the 4sevens but it will be added to my EDC en lieu of the fenix. Brighter or on par light with a few more features and lighter weight. Thanks again.
Thanks mate, glad you found it useful.
Great review. Know what my next light will be.
Yes quite correct. I almost always get a detail wrong somewhere. Cheers mate 🙂
The streamlight has a maximum output of 48 lumens, otherwise great video !!
Thanks for the response, I appreciate it! I wonder if she goes for the blue or the red…
I carry the Preon2 almost every day, use it as needs be and no issues. Use a Streamlight regularly too and same story. You really can't go wrong.
I'm happy when anybody watches and takes the time to comment 🙂
And sorry I keep commenting on your old videos, but I just discovered your channel. 🙂
Mark, you seem like the sort of guy that puts his gear to use. How do you feel about the durability of these penlights? I just bought my wife a Surefire to carry, but she thinks it's too big/heavy. I'm actually quite fine with buying her a new light (means I have another Surefire), and I was looking at these two along with the 4Sevens Minis. I think she would prefer the color and shape of these two more than the Minis, but I usually like to know the gear that I purchase will last. Thanks!
I like the Streamlight too. Sure it does not have all the features of the 4Sevens, but like you say, it's simple to use. I think it is also great value.
i just bought the streamlight stylus pro and i love it i will probablly buy the 4sevens cause there cool but i love how simple the streamlight is u can press it a lil to come on while u hold it down and then click it to come on and click it again to go off simple i like simple things plus u really dont have to worry about it coming on accidently cause u almost gotta use your finger tip to click on so your not gonna accidently click it on to stay and i like the price i paid 25 us dollars
Not on mine. From what I can tell from the Streamlight site they are still a simple on/off switch. Not a bad thing really, nice and simple.
Sorry can't say. I've not used them at all. I think as long as you buy one of the quality lights you won't be unhappy. There are so many good lights around these days it can be hard to choose.
How you feel about nextorch's k3?
Automotive tech looking for a great penlight. I must've watched every YouTube video on penlights.
Thanks for the comment and the sub, I'm glad you found the video useful.
Brilliant comparison and review. I'm looking around at several flashlights and this video has been a big help. Thank you. Subscribed!
My wife is a paramedic and carries one of these. She tells me the low setting when you first turn it on is ideal for using on patients and does not dazzle. The higher settings are great for other general uses.
I have had the Streamlight for near on 2 years and it is still my edc light with a Fenix TK20 as my option for increased lighting capability. Very happy with the Streamlight but I am looking at a Preon 1 as a replacement edc light.
@sl66ICEcuba I don't have the other version, but all the stats to compare are on the 4 Sevens site. I went with the AA version because batteries are easy to get anywhere and are interchangable with most of my other gear.
@AussieMark909 JEALOUS! How does it compare to the cr123a Quark? I am guessing the AA is slimmer, but whats the difference in light out put and battery longevity?
@sl66ICEcuba I know what you mean, I just got a Quark AA. Damn good light it is too. Thanks for watching 🙂
Great review! I just ordered a Preon 2…. saw the Preon 1 and then ordered it as well… then ordered the clicky cap for it…. Then ordered the Preon 0…. I might have a light addiction :S Can't wait for it to come in, keep up the great work.
@MobFrenziedHomicide Don't have one, but with the twist switch and less light output on the P1, I prefered the P2. If the P1 suited your pocket or carry better than that would be the go. I must say I really love this light, just a great product.
Very cool review. Do you think the Preon 1 is as good as the Preon 2?
@ironmonkeyz I tell ya, these new lights are awesome. I dug out an old 2 x AA Maglite to compare these against and it was just no contest. Amazing how far the technology has advanced.
@defenseandsafety No way should you have read the manual, thats like asking for directions when you're lost, it's just not the done thing! Thanks for watching 🙂
great review – i did the same review/comparison on my channel. i prefer the streamlight – it seems more "solid" and 25 lumens is perfect for an EDC type light. i keep the preon in the center console of my vehicle. great tip on the different modes for the preon – i should have read the manual 😉
@thomassmyth65 Hey thanks mate, I didn't know the Stylus did that until reading your comment. Just tried it, how neat!
@troy5690 Thank Troy, I often stuff up and press way more than I should when accessing the special modes. Normal modes are easy and really thats what I use mostly.
@AussieBushCraft12 Pretty sure thats not what I was thinking of lol 🙂
@gavkoo I know, when I played it back I'm like "WTF!!!" Maybe I was having a Vivaldi moment? I was just too slack to try to redo it yet again, for some reason this review was a hard one to do. If you do decide to spend the extra on a Preon 2 you will be impressed, they are worth the cost. Thanks for watching mate.
@ColinOutdoors Hi Colin, thanks mate, I stumbled over this one in places but got there in the end.
i love my preon2 however for the money, i cant believe it doesnt have a momentary on like the stylus, i own a microstream, and i edc that light all the time because of the momentary on feature alone! 4sevens and fenix need to get this on there lights asap!
Awesome side by side review. Great job Mark. After seeing how many presses you need to do with the prion it's a good thing the end is metal.
@cam131313cam Actually the Streamlight came with batteries as well, they were already fitted to the flashlight. I should have mentioned this I guess. Cheers mate!
@unomas58 I prefer the Preon 2 as well. But for the money I think the Streamlight is pretty amazing too.
Both look like very nice lights.I tend to favor the Preon 2. Excellent review.
