4Sevens Preon 2 & Streamlight Stylus Pro: Comparision Review

The 4Sevens Preon 2 and the Streamlight Stylus Pro are high value flashlights. Both are powered by two AAA batteries (supplied with both lights) and are “penlight” style designs, making them easy to carry. In this video I discuss and compare the specs, operation, and features of each light. We’ll also do a lighting test both inside a building, and outdoors.

I use both these lights in my extended EDC system. The Preon 2 in a pocket, and the Stylus Pro in a pocket organiser as a backup (or perhaps for use by another person in an emergency situation). Whilst I have not had to use my light in an emergency, I have used it often in the normal course of the day. I really enjoy the convenience of having this lighting capability on hand.

If you are looking for a penlight for your EDC either light would be a great choice. The Preon 2 packs in more features and capability, the downside is that it is more expensive. The Stylus Pro may not have all the bells and whistles, but it is a very good light, simple to operate, and great value.

Don’t find yourself left out in the dark, be sure to include lighting capability in your EDC system.

  1. Not sure about that light, don't have. I'll have to look it up. To get 4 sevens gear here I have to import it and have not done that lately. Thanks for the heads up on the new light, I'm going for a look now 🙂

  2. Thanks for your upload of these lights, which was brilliant, no pun intended.
Liked it more than most because you showed them in use, though it would have been better if you had shown them in use shining around the room and around the garden as you walked more.

Don’t ever say sorry for any long videos!!!! You make good vids with lots of detail.

120 Lumens, seems to be less than the USA one.

Are you going to review the latest penlight from 4sevens takes 2 AA and has 180 Lumens.

  3. Yes sir I most assuredly did. Wasn't even aware of the 4sevens but it will be added to my EDC en lieu of the fenix. Brighter or on par light with a few more features and lighter weight. Thanks again.

  4. Mark, you seem like the sort of guy that puts his gear to use. How do you feel about the durability of these penlights? I just bought my wife a Surefire to carry, but she thinks it's too big/heavy. I'm actually quite fine with buying her a new light (means I have another Surefire), and I was looking at these two along with the 4Sevens Minis. I think she would prefer the color and shape of these two more than the Minis, but I usually like to know the gear that I purchase will last. Thanks!

  5. i just bought the streamlight stylus pro and i love it i will probablly buy the 4sevens cause there cool but i love how simple the streamlight is u can press it a lil to come on while u hold it down and then click it to come on and click it again to go off simple i like simple things plus u really dont have to worry about it coming on accidently cause u almost gotta use your finger tip to click on so your not gonna accidently click it on to stay and i like the price i paid 25 us dollars

  6. Sorry can't say. I've not used them at all. I think as long as you buy one of the quality lights you won't be unhappy. There are so many good lights around these days it can be hard to choose.

  7. My wife is a paramedic and carries one of these. She tells me the low setting when you first turn it on is ideal for using on patients and does not dazzle. The higher settings are great for other general uses.

  8. @sl66ICEcuba I don't have the other version, but all the stats to compare are on the 4 Sevens site. I went with the AA version because batteries are easy to get anywhere and are interchangable with most of my other gear.

  9. Great review! I just ordered a Preon 2…. saw the Preon 1 and then ordered it as well… then ordered the clicky cap for it…. Then ordered the Preon 0…. I might have a light addiction :S Can't wait for it to come in, keep up the great work.

  10. @MobFrenziedHomicide Don't have one, but with the twist switch and less light output on the P1, I prefered the P2. If the P1 suited your pocket or carry better than that would be the go. I must say I really love this light, just a great product.

  11. @ironmonkeyz I tell ya, these new lights are awesome. I dug out an old 2 x AA Maglite to compare these against and it was just no contest. Amazing how far the technology has advanced.

  12. great review – i did the same review/comparison on my channel. i prefer the streamlight – it seems more "solid" and 25 lumens is perfect for an EDC type light. i keep the preon in the center console of my vehicle. great tip on the different modes for the preon – i should have read the manual 😉

  13. @gavkoo I know, when I played it back I'm like "WTF!!!" Maybe I was having a Vivaldi moment? I was just too slack to try to redo it yet again, for some reason this review was a hard one to do. If you do decide to spend the extra on a Preon 2 you will be impressed, they are worth the cost. Thanks for watching mate.

  14. i love my preon2 however for the money, i cant believe it doesnt have a momentary on like the stylus, i own a microstream, and i edc that light all the time because of the momentary on feature alone! 4sevens and fenix need to get this on there lights asap!
