Purchased an Aero 308 upper and lower. Finally when Summer arrived, I set out to try the rifle. Filled up the 20 round magazine, and set the gun up on the two bags, and set the safety to "fire", after loading a round into the chamber. Pulled the trigger, and nothing happened, except for the click of the hammer. The bolt was stuck in the chamber. It took mechanical force to release that bolt. I couldn't find the cause of the problem. Except that the bullet's primer had not been hit by the striker.
The upper is now back, sitting at the factory. No report yet as to the status of the upper. Looks like I'll have to call them to find out what's going on. Quite disappointed that things had to go this way.
Johnny's so much fun watching you do your first lower. Welcome to the club. So much advice and special tools could be offered to support your efforts. But it's more fun just figuring it out yourself. Much appreciation for keeping me company at my reloading bench.
Just started to do an AR 10 build. When I get done it will go into my safe alongside my REAL MANS rifle (aka an un issued M1 Garand) (ps for you young whipper snappers when I served we carried the M1!)
Yes, you CAN call it an AR10, but if the patent holder decided to sue everybody that does call it that, they wouldn't have to make guns anymore for income.
Where's that upper build? Can't leave us hanging like this. 😀 With my free time I have been watching some more of your older videos. I found out a few things I was wondering about. One was the ATN bag on your counter during a cast bullet powder coating video. The other was a time or two of you mentioning your language when you first started out. Both have been answered.
I'll send you a hitch pin to make the installation of the pivot pin SO much easier! Put the hitch pin in "backwards" from the pivot pin and use the hole to line up the spring and detent. Then use a punch to compress the detent and spring and turn the hitch pin to keep it all compressed. Then use the pivot pin to push out the hitch pin and capture the detent and spring….DONE! Just use your fingers and thumbs (or a clear plastic bag) to keep them corralled should they want to take flying lessons.
All" high quality" lowers have the upper receiver tension screw… Watching the lower assembly videos I like the suspense of watching for flying springs and pins!
I don't think anyone mentioned it in the comments, but the rear take down pin detent spring hole should be threaded for a 4-40 set screw. That way you only have to worry about sending your safety spring into a low earth orbit. You have to cut the spring to get the desired tension on the take down pin.
Johnny, when you start going through this series, please spend a bit more time then you have recently on how exactly you work up the brass both before and after the first firing. I had to go all the way back to your first grendal series videos and with all the weird crap going on with that thing, it's extremely confusing for a newbie like myself. I noticed a lot of the same questions I had about bumping shoulder and resizing for semi-auto guns was asked a lot in your live chats and I think it's because you've stepped away from some of the reloading basics like that and often times just come to us with prepped and primed brass. A refresher every now and then would be helpful.
Johnny did you make a choice on the muzzle device yet? I'm working on my 6.5 CM build i was looking at the Odin Works Atlas for it. Or if any other viewers can chime in would be appreciated. Thanks
I can't wait to see you put that 6.5 CM upper together.. I been following your load data development on the 6.5 but don't know how much difference it would be with your bolt gun you use. Now I can really pay attention with the load development with your up coming build of 6.5. Thank you
Oh Johnny! The big brother gun build will be nice! Aero is some top notch stuff! I am looking forward to building on their M5E1 platform like what you have there. BA makes some nice barrels! Aero sister company as well.

Why do people get butt hurt about calling it AR-10?

Build starts at 6:35
The rear retaining bolt is really tight on mine too. Drop of grease helped that until it wore in.

This was painful to watch.
Installing the front take down pin detent is about a seven hand operation.
Johnny!?!? You ok, Brother?
Thanks for the heads up about LaRue
What lower parts kit are you using
thank for sharing

I like the way this is turning out. Inspires me to build one of my own. . .

When are you going to start doing a series on 45 ACP loads.
How did you manage not cussing when that takedown detent went flying??? Lol. You a better man than me.
BA Barrels are $89.00 barrels sold for $250.00 most over rated barrel in History so far !!!
great video. You did a good job. Reminded me of my first time.
Those Aero builder kits are awesome. I just got one in the small platform to build a Valkyrie.

Great timing I hope I’ll be building myself a new Aero lower as well! Thanks for the great video on the process
Can you guys send me some free stuff too? I’d like to build an ar10 as well

Good timing. Just an hour before this popped up, I ordered an Aeroprecision lower and upper!
This is awesome to see everyone coming together to help… Great job everyone.
I look forward to the next video!

Lol. There are 5 or 6 takedown pin detents somewhere on my garage floor. They're slippery.
