Picking a red dot for a semi-auto carbine can be challenging for a new shooter. I’ll show you a holographic sight, several red dot sights and a nice Nikon rifle scope made for the AR platform.

  1. I was curious about the Sig models, but I love me some Holosun ACSS. Light. Shake awake. Ultra long battery life. ACSS reticle. Reasonably priced. Reliable. Tuff. What's not to love?

  2. I am a new AR owner, well, picking it up today, that is. M&P 15 Sport II. Definitely been looking at what the best red dot sight would work best for me, without severely paying far too much for it, that is. Very informative video, much appreciated! 👍

  3. I have a 16" rifle & a 7" pistol setup similar. My finances being limited I found good deals on the Sight Mark Wolverine FSR & CSR. They're a little bulky but very rugged & I placed them for good balance. I have Troy backup sights also on both. I had to save up for them at $200 a pair but I fell in love with them in the store. I got to look through a EO Tech once & it was love at first, well you know. I hope to buy one in the future, maybe two. I noticed in the last scene your handguard said Troy. My rifle which was my first AR is a Troy with a Troy brand upgraded trigger done at the store when I bought it. Love this thing.

  4. Just throwing some other ideas out there, Holosun and Sightmark both make a "hybrid" powered red dot that take batteries and are solar powered. I don't hear too much talk about them, but my Holosun is accurate enough for a red dot. One of my AR's is set up with a tactical 1.5-12 power scope with a Holosun red dot on a 45 degree offset rail. Some people don't like the idea of a secondary sighting system on an offset rail but I think it's just a matter of training with your gear to get the "best of both worlds". Even at 1.5 power, I would still take a red dot over a scope for close-in shooting situations because it doesn't interfere too much with your peripheral vision (unlike a scope).

  5. I am a new AR owner (Spikes Tactical) and my friend just sold me a Nikon M-223 scope. He has the EOTech. Is there an advantage over the scope with any of these Red dots? I am also buying a Hellcat soon. Which Red dot or aiming device would you suggest to help make sure I hit my target. A lot of info out there, but your great videos help us focus on the important issues and questions that newbies would have.

  6. If only Red Dot is installed, can it still shot for long distance or can we see the objects in long range through that optics? I also heard Green Dot, what are the differences? Thanks

  7. Eotech= JUNK ! I was shooting at the range with a AR15 and my 512 on it, then I heard DINK !The reflector plate fell off ! No warranty left on the sight, so I took it apart, the little dab of glue that held the plate on , dried up, and fell off ! They could have easily engineered it with a channel and a set screw to hold it in, but they went cheapo and just glued it in place. I can't believe our soldiers and police trust their lives to something constructed as crappy as this ! If it was $80 and 12 years old, I would say " Oh well, $80 , what do you expect", but focking Eotechs are NOT $80 !

  8. Well it's nice to know now that Nikon no longer makes scopes for rifles for political reasons therefore I will never buy another Nikon product as long as I live so I've wrote Nikon off my off my list, I will never do business with them again.

  9. Good advice on avoiding the cheapo back up sights. Took a chance on a $30 set. They were so sloppy and poorly made as to be nearly unusable. Would not hold zero. I’m a machinist and was able to bush the pivots and clean up the rear sight aperture to make them usable, but the time it took to do that… Ended up getting a Vortex prism optic and took them off.

  10. So just from watching (as I know nothing of red dots) it seems like the Bushnell and the Romeo5 are roughly the same price and unless I'm missing something it seems like the Romeo5 is vastly superior. Can anyone chime in on that?

  11. I don't like red dot sights. My old eyes not only need reading glasses but they have an astigmatism. The best feature of the rifle scope is the ocular adjustment to give a crisp cross hair rather than a blurred smear that in no way resembles a dot! 🙂

  12. The TRS-25 is the lowest bottom tier I would trust my life to. You can save just a bit more and get a Romeo 5. The Romeo MSR doesn't have some of the features of the slightly more expensive Romeo 5 like the shake wake and battery life isn't as high.

  13. Grab what you can find. I just grabbed a Monstrum 1-4 scope for my CMMG 22 upper. I ordered straight from them and no issues. What I would be wary of.. Buying stuff on Amazon and getting a Chinese knockoff . Read the reviews and see how many people got ripped off. So many scammers selling on Amazon. MRO's, Eotechs and many of the others aren't the real thing.

  14. I really like Riton optics.
Good stuff at an affordable price & the company is ran by some solid people.
I still have an old TRS-25 on a PCC & it has been reliable.
The sad part is I now see them going for double (or more) the normal price.

  15. Another great video, thank you! While I have too many rifles to mention, only two (both 22LR) have 'scopes on them. But since I recently acquired a DP12, I felt the need to "dress it up" a little. After a bit of research, I decided on the Bushnell TRS-25 red dot optic, and I'm surprised to find that I actually like it! That DP12 is going to bankrupt me – it's almost as much a "Lego For Men" as an AR platform! LOL!! Please stay well!

  16. I have some legality questions I wanted to ask you since I also live in southern NV. I'm having an issue with the rent a cop at the apartments I live in. Basically hes trying to tell me they dont allow guns on private property and he literally told me to keep my side arm concealed while on walking around the lot. In NV it's a open carry state and I dont have my CCW so its illegal for me to conceal. Any thoughts?

  17. Great video, especially considering there was no shooting going on, lol. Besides living in the desert we seem to have a lot in common. The Sig Romeo has become my favorite little optic as well. I recently bought one for $99 dollars on sale. When I realized how much I liked them I watched closely and as soon as they were on sale again for $99 I bought another one. I have been seeing them for about $129 dollars but occasionally they are as low as $99 dollars. The next time I see them on sale for $99 dollars I may just buy a few of them and be done with it. They really are a great little optic. I also use polymer MagPul for all of my backup sights, they are well worth the money. Stay safe brother.
