I’ve assembled exactly one budget AR-15 and will probably never do it again…. honestly it didn’t really save me any money and I am left with a gun that I don’t have long-term faith in. While Eugene Stoner designed a very simple gun that can be taken down by a grunt in the jungle with a bullet, there are parts of the actual building process like torque specs, headspace (not a huge deal but still should be right), gas block and barrel installation and machining tolerances that lend me to trust mid and top tier builders over my own 2 hands every day of the week. That’s not to say it can’t be fun to learn how an AR-pattern rifle works, I just wouldn’t have it as my first or only gun.
Now, for those of you that take the time to learn all the ins and outs and buy the right parts and tools, I’m sure you can build a very, very good gun…. but I’d rather have a warranty.

The biggest problems with cheap ARs / parts kits are QC and parts quality. I'm talking about things like canted gas blocks and chinesium detents.
If you know what to look for then your homebuilt AR will be just as reliable as a premium manufacturer.
It won't be as accurate, but most people don't need 1-moa ARs.
For me, there is no company that makes a rifle that I like every single parts that were used. So if I buy a factory one, I’ll spend more money on top of it just to make it customized to my liking. Also, as a more experienced AR builder (dealing with suppressors) it’s a different ball game for me now that tuning is required to be able to get the best performance/reliability out of the platform. As long as you have the proper jigs/gauges and get quality parts, it can be just as good and even better than a lot of factory built ARs. Now not every one who builds theirs use the mentioned parts so there’s that.
Of course it’s not “just as good”. But anyone who knows anything about the nicer things in life knows what diminishing returns and rollmark premiums mean.
I'm still waiting on my type a 11.5 piston, and I was thinking of giving it to my son, but after watching this video, I changed my mine, gonna build my son a cheap AR and keep the type A LOL.
I want to make the intro jingle my ring tone 😂
Not just as good but PSA makes good stuff for the budget. Def better quality than your basement rifle. True story though. Nothing beats buying a complete with a warranty. Love my palmetto, but doesn’t come close to my ADM.
Your video is just as useless as the guy's opinion that his home build rifle is "as good". You had no data no testing just your opinion.Fail.
Is that foregrip you have on the Grey gun legal to mount on ar pistols?
I’d hate to spend $2k-ish and the gun not be as good as a Tri or A-Type.
👍
I love this series!
You can for sure build some solid AR’s with quality parts on a budget, but I don’t think your run of the mill, off the shelf S&W M&P 15 will ever stack up to a Triarc or something.
What if the one you built is over $2000?😂🤨
