This Project is Getting Away from me. I’ve been workign toward the ultimate 308 for a while now. Links to previous installments below. If you remember back I started with a CMMG MK3 308 pistol. Out of the gate I had cycling issues with the ar 10 with light ammo. After a bit of tinkering I got reliable operation but it wont work suppressed so I thought to work in an adjustable gasblock.
This go around shorty being mean and doesnt like the POF dictator. This leg of the testing ultimately failed because the gas block did not have fine enough adjustments. I will figure this out but for now the battle rifle setup has stalled for lack of knowhow.

  1. People. Please. A couple things
1.) First 17 seconds. I have already messed with the carrier and buffer. Full video in the description box.

2.) OSS- I have tried to work with OSS in the past. I was very close before my friend Randy left the company. As in it was scheduled for early 2020. That clearly did not happen. The problem in the past has been OSS will not agree to our end. So I will keep my opinion as is- OSS is for piston guns, trash on everything else. The rest is marketing vs reality

  2. As I was watching the video, I was questioning why you were turning the block up more when it was clearly overgassed and not giving the brass time to get out of the way before slamming home. Good to see you caught it later.

  3. I'm looking for 1 suppressor for 350 legond 30/06 and 556. Do they make adapters that fit those different threads? if they do can I get different baffle to change between calibers or are the baffles them self regulated. If the baffles are regulated is it even worth it to buy 1 cann?

  4. For my MK3 , I am looking at the Wilson Combat Bulletproof adjustable gas block. It is a .750 gas port and it runs the same Mid length gas tube. Item number : TR-AGB750-10M
I would definitely like to see a review and test on their product.

  5. When you run a rifle with a suppressor with a QD mount, do you have less recoil when the QD mount is a brake vs a flash-hider? Or once you have the suppressor mounted there is no real difference? (Talking 308 here).

  6. I had to play with the gas block on my Beowulf after I changed almost everything about it as I bought a base upper and then changed everything except the upper receiver and the barrel. Took a couple mags to get it running well again but it was still fun so I didn't mind.

  7. The SA doesn't have any clicks. I don't know exactly what the mechanics are inside, but I don't remember having any limits with mine. I think I need a lighter BCG so I can lower my gas a little more, trying to make 308 run as little recoil as possible, but I'm new to the adjustable stuff. I have an adjustable JPI captured buffer system.

  8. Try out a standard carbine buffer weight and regular gas block. I get why you want the fine tune, less excess gas going back your way. I get it. But you've gone through so many fine tune that the firearm isn't reliable anymore. It's a garaged Harley Davidson that starts, but can't even make it down the street. It's a conversation piece. Make your firearm reliable instead of convenient.

  9. Having the same issue on my AR10. Krieger M110 .936 I have a SUPERLATIVE gas block I cannot get my rifle to lock open on last round fired. Just to get my rifle to cycle I had to cut 5 coils off the buffer spring.

  10. You mentioned that y’all previously messed with the buffer, weights, etc. 308’s can be very tricky when you start jacking with the buffer, spring, and tube. Are you ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that you have the correct spring, buffer length, and receiver extension length installed? I ask this because I have made this same mistake, and it’s a very easy mistake to make. If the buffer tube is a traditional AR15 carbine length, you have to use a shortened buffer and a .308 compatible carbine length buffer spring. Not just any AR15 carbine spring will work. If you use the wrong spring, it won’t compress enough and cause malfunctions that ~look like~ it’s under gassed. Check to make sure you can easily lock the BCG back. If you can’t, or it’s really close to the bolt catch, the tube/spring/buffer combo is your problem.

  11. Heavier buffer weight?
Barrel with a mid length system instead of carbine length? Would lower the dwell time and alleviate some of the over gassing when suppressed

  12. Better ideas….
    1. What bolt are you using? Large ARs are notorious for poor ejection, it's erratic and/or dribbles out. I see this happening in this video and is a big part of your issues. At 2:30 2:55 3:13 3:47 4:12 etc. all of those should have ejected, the carrier traveled far enough, the case just wasn't spit out. Also the cases that are ejected are going in every direction. There's no consistency and it shouldn't be this gas sensitive.

Fortunately the solution has been provided by the aftermarket, a bolt with dual ejectors. Of the available bolts I HIGHLY suggest you grab the Sharps. Not only do they have dual ejectors but the way the lugs are cut help them run better in dirty silenced guns. I KNOW this first hand, I have a .308 AR with a can and the Sharps bolt solved the same ejection issues you're having. And while I never ran that rifle long enough with the old bolt to get dirty enough to have issues. I have my 300BLK and the Sharps bolt solved it's fouling issues.

PS the Sharps bolt also uses the smaller high pressure firing pin.

    2. Additionally I suggest you consider the Seekins Select Adjustable Gas Block. It has a lever to allow tool-less adjustment, and has detents so it doesn't rattle out of adjustment. Face it, with this setup you'll never have one gas adjustment for everything from light loads while dirty wo/can to heavy loads while clean w/can. Being able to grab the next click without tools is very handy.

  13. Ok i have gone through thia exact same thing with my 308 CMMG 12.5 inch mid length superlative arms adjustable gas block. And you might say bullshit.. but the problem was corrected by replacing the extractor springs with extra power springs.. now i have it running pretty reliable with or with out suppressor..
