So, you said that the ONLY way to charge the battery is in the camera. However there are LOTS of chargers (and batteries) available on Amazon, Ebay, and many internet photo stores, plus brick and mortar stores as well. Usually, you can find a charger and two batteries (and I highly recommend extra batteries) for around $25, or double or triple that for Nikon's branded stuff.
Update. Totally disappointed in the P1000. Its a gimmick camera. The lens is great but the 16mp sensor is a joke. It's a good weather camera at best. Been doing photography for close on 60 years and I rate this as one of my great disappointments. It's not worth the time I've spent with it. I'm selling it and relying on my Lumix FZ2000/2500 20mp, a far better camera.
For that price such a tiny sensor, i guess youre paying for optics
