A quick review of this solid weapon mounted light kit from Streamlight. It comes with all of the mounting accessories you need to attach it to a rifle with pic rails.

From Streamlight:

Lightweight, compact, low profile, the Streamlight 88058 ProTac Rail Mount Tactical Light features the latest in shock-proof power LED technology. The rail clamp is designed to rapidly and securely attach/detach from rifles, carbines, and submachine guns with a MIL Standard 1913 Rail. This 350-lumen light features a dedicated fixed-mount for Picatinny rails. It uses either a remote switch with momentary/constant-on operation or a push-button tail switch. TEN-TAP Programming offers the choice of three operating modes: high/strobe, high only, and low/high. Dual Fuel: The ProTac Rail Mount Tactical Light uses one AA alkaline or one CR123A lithium battery; also accepts AA lithium batteries.

It’s a solid light for a great price. Many weapon lights are very expensive. The Protac RM1 will meets all your needs, and not break the bank.

  1. hey, nice review! I use mine on an AR pistol that is my PDW. The form factor of this one fits the shorter overall length of the weapon, and as you stated, is plenty for home defense and then some. The good things about it is that it comes with most everything you need for an install (if you have the rail space available) and a nice feature is that runs off a AA battery and that functionality is pretty seamless. For something a little more, like for a carbine or a rifle, its big brother the ProTac 2 is a good option for a few bucks more, 650 lumens, but without the AA battery capability. Now there are 1000 lumen models for the Protac series, and rechargeable options, also, but expect to pay 50 or 60 bucks more. The 1 and 2 models are great for my uses. Edit: one other thing worth mentioning is that if you use the pressure switch the unit is water resistant IPX4, but if you just use the tailcap, it's waterproof IPX7. If you have heavy field use in mind, the pressure switch might not be the best mount (like if you plan on being submerged in water).
