Here is a short video showing my method of matching a BDC scope to any rifle and caliber. I wanted to use my least expensive rifle and scope, because it shows anybody can do this, with limited equipment.
When I first started looking for video information on this topic, all I could find is videos saying not to use BDC scopes, or you have to have the specific rifle and ammo. So, I figured I share what I know and make a video. This is my second video now, it is turning into a fun hobby.
Items need:
BDC Scope
Any scope with Bullet Drop Compensator or holdover reticle. I am using a budget optic, 1-4×20 Monstrum Tactical, it can handle the .22LR recoil no problem. The BDC holds are for 223/556 with a muzzle velocity of 2800 fps. After running it through a ballistic calculator, the BDC holds go from 300 yards to 1000 yards with 223/556. 85 yards to 315 yards using .22LR, which is perfect. I wanted this scope because I needed a wide field of view at 1 power for fast varmints up close. 4 power is all I need to see those targets clearly, up to 100 yards, and up to 300 hitting large steel, the max that rifle and ammo could do. Remember with budget scopes, you might get a bad one that got through their QC. Inspect it well, which is why I showed a bad focus knob on SFP scope reticle. Reticle moved from adjusting the focus ring and also when zooming in and out.
Scope Cap (Optional)
I showed my method of putting data on a scope cap. If you don’t want it on your scope cap, you could just write down the data, print it, make a dope card, or save it in the app. My app doesn’t have the reticle, which is why I made the data for my scope cap. Also, using a cap, it will always be with the rifle and it protects the lens.
Rifle
I am using my 10/22, not setup to be a heavy bench gun or for competition. Mean for light weight field work and training new shooters.
Ballistic App
I bought Strelok Pro because it allows you to save multiple rifles, scope, and ammo selections. I can also use it in the field and it will always be with me. Use any app that will allow you to correct drop in inches.
Ammo
If you can afford to test different ammo, do it. What someone used in their setup might not work for you and your rifle. Since I was using my plinking 10/22, I wanted to pick ammo that is going to be available all the time. Usually a name brand ammo that always around, or anything I can pick up at Wal-mart. I will then stick to that same ammo type or similar weight, because I know that shoots best for that rifle.
Range
At least twice the distance of your zero, at the minimum. If you could go further, your data will be more accurate.
I hope this information helps you get the max potential out of your rifle and optic.

Awesome video bro
Nice video! Will you please make a video on how to use trajectory validation?
first you say the BDC holds are for .223/5.56 but you are setting it for a 10-22 which is A .22 long rifle. Which is it??????
Gidoutahere! Nothing can be this simple. Thanks for the vid!
