  1. Does the cmmg conversion kit have anything to do with the gas system? I was thinking of building a dedicated.22 out of my AR parts. I believe it is a blowback system and I intend to block off the gas block.

  2. For the CMMG conversion kit, they state in the manual they recommend copper plated bullets to increase accuracy and reduce fouling. Between these two options, I think the CMMG is the clear winner. For price savings, ease of use and because I like that they engineered their own mags that seem to work every time with no fitment issues (mags are the top issue for feeding reliability).

  3. Love my cmmg conversion. 1/3 of the price as a dedicated upper and can shoot 5.56 and .22. Stuck with .22 the other way. To each their own though. Take the $ out of the equation and yeah the choice is clear.

  4. Even though there is a size difference, I would think the .22 LR would be fine because of its design. most .22LR bullet I have seen has a "Lead Skirt" which should expand out against the riffling, which I would think will mediate the size difference. For 22 that have a metal coating, the coating is thin enough that this effect probably still happens.

I've seen several "accuracy" test videos with the CMMG and most have very good groups depending on the ammo use. Based on those videos, I am very interested in getting a CMMG conversion for my AR. I have a decent amount of 22 on hand, but I have only around 100 rounds of 223 and I have yet to see any 5.56 Nato or 223 in stock in any gun stores locally. So I rather practice with .22 and only use my .233 rounds to "clean the gun" after shooting a bunch of 22's, and save them for if and when the stuff hits the fan.

  5. First let me say I am a nobody 66 years old and don't usually shoot more than a couple hundred rounds per year. The best description of this conversion is wow. I sighted it in and my last two groups at 25 yards with iron sights free hand without a lean were 3/4" and 1-1/4". I couldn't believe how well I could shoot this. I used three types of junk ammunition including Rem golden bullet hollow point bucket pack, Aguilla 40 grain hollow point bulk pack, and some very old Rem bare not even plated gray lead hollow points. I shot a combination of about 75 shots today with no failures to feed or go bang. I will be shooting a lot more going forward. With this kind of accuracy I may even use it to hunt squirrels. This is so ridiculously fun I can't even describe it other than to say it makes me giggle.

  6. CMMG sells a dedicated 22lr upper, or they sell 22 lr. barrels that fit ar uppers for you to roll your own. The dedicated 22 lr upper functions flawlessly, a lot better than using the conversion on a 223 upper. I have three CMMG dedicated uppers which run great. .
