CMMG makes a number of complete AR-15 patterned rifles as well as Pistol Caliber Carbines, not to mention Conversions. Today I take a look at the CMMG Mk57 8″ Conversion. A complete upper receiver, bolt carrier group and magazine that converts any Mil-Spec lower receiver into a 5.7x28mm firearm.

I’ve used this Mk57 conversion quite a bit, to include using it in a Runenation Level 2 Carbine Course. It is great in that it offers you all of the familiarity of a AR-15 with significantly less recoil and suppresses much nicer when compared to a 5.56. Not to mention it is a ton of fun to shoot…

  1. Now that more companies are making 5.7 weapons ammo companies should start making more of it and perhaps more companies will get into making the ammo as well. The Package is very interesting I think the 8 inch is the way to go and it would make a very Sweet Home Defense weapon that you can teach your kids how to use since the weight of the weapon is less even if you go with a brace over the SBR route. The Magazine problem would be an issue but Hopefully someone else will jump in and help out CMMG with the Mags maybe Magpul could come up with a fix but that is something they need to workout for themselves.

  2. I'd love to see the difference between the 8" CMMG and 10" P90. The ballistics of the SS192 from the P90 are impressive. Heck, they're impressive from the regular 4.8" barrel and even more so from the 14" PS90 barrel (pinned to 16"). Definitely noisy little buggars. But, for all the noise, they're even more fun… and even more expensive, but fun.

  3. Definitely picking one up when/if the ammo market stabilizes to go with my Dead Air Mask HD. I’d like to see them come out with a 20 and 30 round mag to make it a little more handy.

  4. There are numerous civilian legal rounds in 5.7mm that will defeat IIIA armor. Getting it right now…wont be easy. But it is definitely a thing we citizens can make full effect of.

  5. I think this rifle is awesome as a training aid for my young kids. We already have a suppressed mp15-22 that they love. But the 5.7 ammo is so hard to find here in rural Kentucky. Wish someone made a 22 magnum AR. Cool video Ivan keep it up πŸ€™

  6. I wish Ruger would hurry up and release they're threaded barrel version of the Ruger 57 and a companion carbine. Someone already leaked a picture showing a 5.7×28 Ruger silencer and showed it on the Ruger 57 with a threaded barrel so thats coming for sure. Seems like they would be missing a great opportunity not to release a lightweight companion rifle to go with it while there is still some hype around it. If they would make a gun similar to the MP7 and chamber it in 5.7 people would be selling organs to buy one.
