  1. Good review in general BJ, I found it very informative. You’re correct, that their are lots of us interested in the TLR 7 & 8 right now because they’re relatively new to the market and promise to be game changers (powerful light in a small package). But, by way of a little constructive criticism, your presentation is supposed to be a detailed review, which implies to me that the presenter would approach the task in a professional way, like following the instructions and using the recommended tools, etc. so, it would be much more professional if you weren’t whining about needing the correct tool to install the light on your gun. For those who haven’t figured it out by the time they were old enough to buy a gun, a screw normally requires a screwdriver to tighten. When the bottom of the screw head groove is concave instead of flat, the manufacturer intended for you to use 1) a coin, which can be very handy, or 2) when the subject device is installed on a firearm, the extractor rim of the applicable caliber cartridge. Your thumbnail, while very handy and curved in shape, was probably not what the manufacturer intended.

  2. Y’all, the “little tool” mentioned at 1:06 is for installing and removing the little horseshoe bolt fastener, NOT for use with the various “keys” (video refers to them first as “inserts,” manufacturer calls them keys). This video doesn’t follow the manufacturer installation instructions. Read the instructions y’all. Adding the fastener to the bolt is critical. Gun safety.

  3. I just bought this exact one a few weeks ago. Normally I use Surefire X400 Ultra laser/lights. Mine too have the green laser and 1,000 lumen light. The TLR-8 AG only has a 500 lumen light. And I agree that the flat head tightening screw use to secure the system to the rails of a firearm, totally sucks!

  4. If you don't have the correct key installed, your light will go flying down range, regardless of how securely the bolt is tightened. You should check that your key fits into the picatinny slot before you use any loctite or try firing the weapon. I also found that the advised key for my weapon (according to the instructions provided and a follow up email from Streamlight CS) were incorrect. I had to go through each key to make sure there was a slot fit.

The easiest way to do this, like OG&D has shown here, is to remove the bolt and the right rail of the light. Then place the various keys onto the body of the unit, slide it onto your weapon's rails and visually verify that the key fits into the picatinny slot. If you don't do this, you cannot confirm the key fits. You cannot see the fit if the right rail is attached to the unit. It will look and feel like the light is securely on the weapon, but might not be as it's otherwise imperceptible.

The main complaint I've read about this product online is that the light does't stay affixed to the weapon. These people are using the wrong key, despite what Streamlight recommends. If you have a subcompact, you'll most likely need the 1913-4 (the smallest key provided).

I hope this helps alleviate some frustration buys of this laser might have. Once it's correctly on and zeroed, it's a fantastic product. Also, the device OG&D thought was to tighten the bolt is used to install/remove the e-clip on the threaded end of the bolt. This is provided to prevent the bolt from loosening and flying out during firing. After I got everything figured out, key wise, I put blue Loctite on the thread and it hasn't moved since.

  5. Nice light/laser combo… Perfect compact size for a Glock g19… This would be even better if each of the 2 back buttons controlled each function (light and laser) independently
