Streamlight TLR-7A (Still Sucks or Best Concealed Carry Light?)

The Streamlight TLR-7A is a game changer. With the Streamlight TLR-7A you get a 500 lumen compact pistol weapon light. I have the Streamlight TLR-7 A on my Glock 19 for concealed carry. The original TLR-7 had a horrible actuation action, which is fixed now on the TLR-7A. I used to use the Surefire X300 Ultra but am now switching to the Streamlight TLR-7A. I do believe the TLR-7A could have an additional actuation level as an option that is a little higher, but ultimately the new TLR-7 A is 80% better than the original TLR-7.

When the Surefire XR1 comes out I will be getting one to compare the TLR-7A and I believe they will be very close in terms of performance. Although Surefire says the XR1 has a 1 hour battery life (rechargable) and the TLR-7 A has a 1.5 hour runtime. So unless the XR1 is much better, or have a much hotter center that outperforms the TLR-7A’s moderately hot center, I am sticking with the Streamlight TLR-7A.

  1. The problem is on your last video you shit on the TLR7 and boast about how amazing the Surefire is. When the stuff you hit the TLR on is the same short comings on the Surefire. You basically just praise the shit out of the Surefire for no real valid reasons.

  2. If you need a light in my opinion it doesnt matter if you used your trigger finger cause you shouldnt have been shooting unless you know its something that needs to be shot. Unless your doing the momentary thing. Just my opinion. 🤷

  3. I like the tlr-1 style activation. You can choose up or down and can switch between the two easily. I find this system superior when searching buildings both alone and with another person. You can open doors easily and grab a vest easily and one handed hold an area. For defensive purposes, this system is ok but imagine using that system with your child (or something) in your arms. Practicing activating the light is something that should be practiced with both hands.

  4. Check out the Klarus GL1, it's much better and way cheaper than this light…I have both and can honestly say I prefer the Klarus GL1…I did a video on it very short one, anyway v the Klarus is only $79 vs $120-$170!!! Best part no buying batteries just recharge it!! So glad I got mines free I'll never pay almost $200 for a light that'll need new batteries folks just paying for a popular name, so glad I don't follow the masses!

  5. How much training did you have with tlr7 again? I missed that part. If you fire the light in pitch dark in the middle of dangerous situation can we agree that you dead? Wait we need training to not engage light paddles

  6. The National Tactical Officer Association, whom is considered the leading edge of police tactics and movement, has now began suggesting moving back to constant illumination on handguns, but temporary illumination on rifles. Their reasoning for this is is the sacrifice in grip AND loss of operator vision when the light is off negates any benefit you may get when doing temporary illumination. Also when officers were illuminating their lights with their trigger finger, then engaging a target, they found officers would remove their finger from the button to pull the trigger, this making the officer completely blind to his target. With a rifle, generally, you dont need to sacrifice grip to activate the light. Police are NOT quiet when busting through houses in full load out. Bad dude knows where they are at all times, flashlights on or not.

  7. Thanks for the video. The side switch was one of my big concerns too. Really appreciate the insight on the positive changes that they made. I am still trying to decide between the Streamlight TLR-8A, the TLR-2 HL, and the Surefire X400. All three seem like solid choices, I just can't decide if the extra money is worth it for the Surefire over the Streamlight in my application which is solely home defense.

    Thanks again though! Great content
