To test 5.7x28mm against body armor, ballistics gel, and a heap of other targets, I need a solid, accurate, reliable platform. Check out this CMMG 5.7×28 upper that turns any lower into a little spitfire.

  1. I put one together with a psa lower, aero precision upper, and cmmg 5.7×28 bcg and barrel. Fit together nice and tight and it runs like sowing machine. It’s perfect for home defense, everyone in my home can shoot it comfortably, and ballistic wise it’s better than a +p 9mm with way less recoil. There’s still that group of 5.7 haters but it does what it’s supposed to within the distance it’s supposed to.

  2. See here’s my beef with 5.7 in this case.. you could literally take the same loads in 556/223 and have better ballistics. And outside of the pdw style stuff with the super short barrels I just don’t see the appeal (outside of the radial delay stuff I also really don’t find the PCC stuff in an ar style platform that useful anyway)

  3. I'm still trying to figure out how the CH works. There doesn't look like there is enough meat where the gas key should be to engage the CH. Clearly it does work, but what surface does it engage?

  4. That is just a handful of fun. I will be suprised if it goes through body armor at much over 100 yds. Just because of the 8 inch barrel. A great test. I have no data on the subject.

  5. Hmm not cheap or value priced for a pistol upper are they. How about looking at 350 legend vs 300blk in a 8-12" maybe for home. Does a 350 leg do well in that length? Home defence you don't need long range.

  6. I think the jury is still out on the 5.7 pistol, but the configuration you have with the 8" barrel shows some potential. When fired indoors or from a vehicle it's got to be less traumatic to the ears than a 5.56. Iron sights and manual transmissions are the way everyone should learn to shoot and drive. Like phonetics, cursive writing, and rote math tables, they instill discipline and self-confidence. The alternatives could mean a lifetime of neutered existence consuming soy products, gluten-free breads, and meatless meals, also known as Hell. Look at the time; it's the cocktail hour. I need a bourbon and Coke.

  7. Great video! My son is 6 years old (and shoots lefty) We built an AR-22LR pistol that seems to be the perfect size.

I agree iron sights are very important, but difficult to teach very young shooters sight alignment. We are currently using that infamous $25 Amazon micro red dot. The red dot has some magical mystique that makes aiming extremely easy but most importantly allows dad to focus on safety without distractions of sight alignment!!!

We are certainly following your build, as the 5.7 would be a good next step up in power. Please include videos of your son learning to shoot!
