  1. Thank you for taking the time to make great reviews. Based on your comment at around 2:00 minutes, would you recommend especially to someone who is conscientious of price just go for the 5, and not spring for the extra ~30% $$ to step up to the 7?

  2. I'm more and more sold on the Monarch 7 for spotting critters for my wildlife photography. Dont want to go too high in price cause it's just a secondary tool in my case but dont want to go too cheap either to ruin the experience.

  3. I’m trying to find high quality binoculars for stargazing as well as bird/whale watching. I realize this maybe hard to find but hoping the Nikon Monarch 5 would be a good choice. In your opinion would these work for astronomy viewing? Thanks in advance

  4. I just placed an online order through REI for the Monarch 5. These will be my first quality set of binoculars and I'm looking forward to receiving them. I had not watched your shootout prior to placing the order and now I'm wondering if I made the right choice. Thankfully, REI has a terrific return policy and they carry the Monarch 7 too if I decide to make the swap. I'm simply a novice birder and find it difficult to justify (at least right now) a significantly more expensive set than the Monarch 5. All that said, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the shootout, which prompted me to explore your other videos. You're a wonderful reviewer and it looks like you video many of them in my neck of the woods too. I subscribed.

  5. Needed this so much, thanks.

Question for you…I have a 23 year old set of Orion 10×50 wide angles that were my dads. Although heavy, they are great for basic astronomy when I don’t want to pull the scope out. I mainly look at Jupiter’s moons, Orion Nebula, and occasionally the Andromeda Galaxy when conditions are perfect. However, I need a different set for watching these owls that live in my trees now.

My initial thought is to go 8X42 for birding but what are your thoughts on 10×42 for a good balance between astronomy and low light birding? Would the 10x still be wobbly and a chore for birding?

    Thanks.

  6. Thanks for the review. How does the Monarch 7 8×42 compare to the 10×42? i am a beginner and contemplating between which to get for travel sight seeing purpose
