  1. So I’m going to usmc boot camp in April 2020. I’m left eye dominant but right handed, so will I forced to shoot left handed to shoot more accurately.

    P.s I’ve never shot a gun before

  2. I am right handed and right-eye dominant, but my right eye has deteriorated to the point where I am now learning how to shoot left handed (with a rifle). With a handgun, I'm still gripping right handed, but tilting my head to the right a bit, as well as closing my right eye.

It'll take some time, but eventually I'll be comfortable doing this.

  3. I am right handed right eye dominant but I hurt my eye and cannot see anything I’m directing looking at in my right eye, I have always shot with my right shoulder. So I am going to have to shoulder the gun on the left any tips for getting better besides lots of practice shooting that way?

  4. I'm cross dominant, found this out really early in my army days. Honestly for those struggling, if it's easier and more comfortable, just shoot with the side that "feels" correct.

  5. I really need some advice. I lost my right eye and have issues with my left now and an injured left shoulder as well so I can only shoulder with my right and shoot with the left. What I'm trying to figure out is how to move the 12oclock sight over about an inch and get it sighted accurately. I lost my vision via genetic disease so any help is welcome. I currently have mbus irons and r/g dot but cannot use the mbus now because I can't see the focus point on the front so this is my predicament.

  6. I didn't hear or see anything about this particular detail in this video but suppose you're right handed and right eye dominant using a scoped rifle that has adjustable magnification on it's scope. What would be the correct way to hold the rifle while zooming in or out on or adjusting the scope's level of magnification?

  7. If you're right eye dominant and right handed which hand would be the correct hand to adjust the magnification of a scope with if you were shooting a rifle that has a scope with adjustable magnification?

  8. I know people who are right handed left eye dominant that just put a raiser on the scoop and just tilt the rifle to the left eye….. even seen a guy use his right hand but shoulder the rifle on his left shoulder and that works for Him

  9. I’m right handed but I’m left eye dominant. My right eye is my lazy eye. If I were shooting a rifle, I just deal with the lazy eye. But when I’m playing Airsoft, I actually have a riser for my sight and I tilt the gun so I’m shooting with my left eye, or just both eyes open.
I don’t really think this is really acceptable for shooting, but does anyone have tips for me in that regard? Even if it’s just to tell me not to do that?

  10. I am a right-handed person with a left dominant eye.

The way you can tell what your eye dominance is,
find a small circle example on a dry erase board make a dot.
Now with your hands make a triangle; pointer fingers touching, thumbs touching, TRIANGLE.
Now standing a couple of feet back from that dot with your triangle up like a pair of binoculars, close you're right eye.
    Has the dot moved?
If no then you are left eye dominant.
    If yes then try again.
    Now close your left eye.
If the dot hasn't moved then you are right eye dominant…

So that's what the video might have started with or a link to a previous video..

So now we know what eye dominance is.

Now, we already know what hand we write with.
That is the hand we use for the trigger.

Unless you're using a rifle and cross dominant, as I know of right now as this is the first video Ive found (not easy I might add) for how to hold a rifle being cross dominant.

Now this is the whole point of this comment.

While I am left eye dominant and right hand dominant. I was looking for a video to tell me how to shoot a rifle being cross dominant.

This video tells you that if you are cross dominant one of the ways that you can shoot a rifle is by closing your left eye. WRONG
Now if you figure out your eye dominance like I said above with the triangle, you know.. if you close your dominant eye the non dominant eye distorts your image.
In my case (being left eye dominant if I close my left eye ( dominant eye!) then things are a little off to the right.

From watching this video and getting false information about closing my dominant eye, and I'll be able to see my target straight, IS ABSOLUTELY FALSE and I just wanted to let anybody know who's reading these comments that he gives one good advice by saying to shoot the rifle let handed.
I wish that I could tell you another correct way to shoot your rifle.
By being cross dominant and looking for the correct way to shoot a rifle this was one of the only videos that I could find.

I hope I've helped you. I've learned by trial and error a well as any shooter and wanted to give you an easy way out especially if the odds could be deadly…

I did try shooting left-handed on a rifle m&p 15 .22 rifle and it worked out perfectly, there is no blowback on these so I don't know if there's better advice but I'm going to keep searching.

    !!!!!!!!!ALSO…!!!!!!!!!!!
You should always practice shooting with both eyes open because you should only shoot with both eyes open.
Which is one reason why we should practice…
and if you shoot defensively you always want to be able to use your peripheral vision..

  11. do you have any tips if im blind in my right eye but thats my dominant side? I wanna go to the airsoft fields but I feel like I wont enjoy it being that I have to shoulder the rifle on my left shoulder. Ive always shouldered on the right . anything helps, thanks
Edit: I just recently lost sight in my right eye and have still been getting used to it.

  12. i shot for years in the military without understanding eye dominance. First time grabbing a pistol i noticed i couldnt group accurately. Watching youtube videos i realized i am left eye dominant; but a right handed shooter. I would notice how my sight picture is altered from eye to eye.. I hope leaning in my left eye and closing my right should increase my shot groups.

  13. I'm cross dominance but I don't have a issue with rifles. I shoot left handed with both eyes open and only one eye can see the scope or red dot so it works great for me. Pistols on the other hand I havn't figured out the trick yet to be efficient unless I was to mount a rmr which I feel like I shouldn't have to do and instead train myself around my handicap.

  14. I am right handed and left eye dominan. I shoot right handed both rifle and handgun with both eyes open, with no issues at all. Your brain figures it out faster than you think it might. For handgun I just shift my hand placement over to the left, but only slightly and for rifle, I use my lift eye largly to find the target and then the right eyes takes over with the scope and the left eye plays send fiddle. Works for me !

  15. I am right handed and left eye dominant. As my favorite rifles have been single shot rifles, this has not been a big problem for me. The only time it was an issue was when I was in the National Guard for eight years. I always shot left handed because of that being the way I was able to qualify on the M1, M14, M16 and M60. I qualified Expert on the M14, M16 and M60. The only issue I ever had was with the M16. I always had red ring burns on my right cheek from the hot brass being ejected from the chamber while on the range. Sometimes I even got a hot brass down my shirt which made things interesting. I wore, and still do, glasses back then so I did not worry about hot brass hitting my eye. I subsequently broke my right collar bone, broke the rigt five top ribs and dislocated my right shoulder in a bike wreck so that automatically made me a left hand shooter because of my intolerance for recoil on the right side because of the damage. So I guess I am living proof that you can be right handed, left eyed, and still be a good shot. I shoot revolvers and pistols with my right hand but I cant them to the left about 20 degrees to bring the sights into line with my left eye. Works quite well for me, too.

  16. remember to figure out which is your dominate eye. point your finger at a object with both eyes open. now close you right eye and then close your left eye (after reopening your right eye). which ever eye is still lined up with your target is your dominate eye,

  17. Why does it matter? For example, if I am left eye dom, but right handed. If I bring the rifle up right shoulder and see the dot through my right eye and its on the target and I shoot will it not hit? Is it only an issue because you wont see the reticle as good with both eyes open if you are aiming with your non dom eye?

  18. nice info… I can add another twist you your information.. I am actually left handed but I prefer to do a lot of things (including shooting) right handed… plus I am left eye dominant… I can shoot rifle both left and right handed but I do not like pistol shooting left handed!
