Review of AR 45 made from a New Frontier Armory 80%

I’ve been wanting to have a PCC in .45 ACP for a while now and decided to build my own from a New Frontier armory 80% lower. Not as nice as a CMMG Banshee as it is straight blowback instead of the radial delayed, but the vast majority of pistol caliber guns in the past have been plain blowback, so I don’t foresee any real issues. Plus the Banshee is around $1700 and I did this build for a little over $650. This lower uses Glock 21 mags and is very nice overall.

New Frontier Armory 80% lower
New Frontier 8″ barrel in .45 ACP
New Frontier BCG
BCM Gunfighter mod 1 pistol grip
SB Tactical PDW brace
Magpul front hand stop

  1. New update, still sorting the gun out. Second trip to the range and the new bolt catch broke after only 3 rds. Then I started shooting full auto, due to my overzealous polishing of the reset…..it was operating like a binary trigger firing on the release as well as the pull. So as of today I've replaced the trigger group with one from another AR and went to Joe bobs to order a new trigger for the other AR and a Seekins enhanced bolt catch. Oh yeah, my bolt catch wire was the problem with breaking the bolt catch. Since this upper can be used with either 9mm or .45 my wire came over too far and was hitting the top of the follower on an empty mag instead of the little notch for the hold open, and on a mag with rounds in it it was actually scraping down the side of the bullet. So I had to trim the end of the wire back about 1mm or so to get it to go into the little hold open notch in the magazine once I had that done, I had to bend it up slightly so it will stop trying to push up the hold open catch. I will explain this in greater detail in the next review video. So If you guys have similar problems you will have some answers.

  2. I should have a second review out probably next week. In the shakedown range trip, It was fairly good with federal ball, but the trigger was lightened too much and I was primarily getting light primer strikes as the only malfunction. The other problem was the spring was just a regular carbine spring and I ended up breaking the ping pong paddle! So a quick call to JoeBobs outfitters and I got a replacement and a Kaw Valley HD spring that should make that not happen again. I also replaced the trigger spring with an unmodded standard military one, so the next trip should be better.
