Could you test the impact of tapping off gas by using an adjustable gas block set full open and full close? Actually venting the gas to atmosphere would look very cool on high speed too
Hypothetically could it be possible that suddenly bleeding pressure off the round fired and reducing pressure also cause the propellant to spike and increase pressures ultimately increasing velocity by somehow improving the efficiency of the the powder?
