  1. I never understand how people say they have a gun to protect themselves but yet keep it in a safe. I don’t get it. People really don’t realize how fast shit happens. And if you have a gun in your home , it is a must that you have a light in it or on you. Period.

  2. Under similar conditions — if perp were to actually breach, and then shot….

Being armed and prepared, means ALSO being prepared for imminent contact with law-enforcement. This means primarily being able to articulate ’fear of death!’ That’s it!

Bad guy broke in, was a threat to life, bad guy got shot.

Police will ask for your statement. Know that the ensuing adrenaline dump will create a temporary state of MANIA. It will heavily prompt you make all manner of statements; ALL of which might (can /will) be used against you!

Nothing you say, beyond expressing ‘fear of death,’ will help you!

Having an attorney on retainer, a/o specialized legal service (insurance) can immensely help with the legal aftermath. Simply advise law enforcement you’re ‘represented,’ and your attorney will be handling your statement.

Don’t be afraid to kindly tell them: ‘*This guy just broke into my house! I coulda DIED! I’m pretty wound-up, it’s probably best I have time to calm down and CONTACT MY ATTORNEY.’

Usually cops will understand, and respect your request (good ones, anyhow). Once you ‘invoke’ and request an attorney, the questions should end.

Depending on state, local jurisdiction and LE org’s internal policy — you MIGHT be arrested and taken for arraignment — simply as a matter of policy. Again, nothing you say will influence this!

Keep your mouth shut, request your attorney, and plead NOT GUILTY!

  3. "I decided to go check it out…." you are one of the first white dudes in a horror movie to lock and load and rock and roll with weaponry to the sound needing to be investigated. Absolutely savage.

  4. Had night time visitors four times in the last seven years at my home. All times we were alerted by driveway motion sensors, then we watched the individual on a security monitor. Three out of the four visits ended after the individual checked to see if our car doors were unlocked then walked back down our driveway, crossed the street to our neighbor's driveways, and proceeded to try his luck with their cars. The fourth visit was a bit more bold, with the individual making his way into our backyard, attempting to enter our garage and possibly even our backdoor. When he was walking back down our driveway I came out our backdoor and fired four shots over his head from my pistol. His pace quickened and I watched him jog down the street off my block.

  5. This is one of the scenarios that never makes the news because no shots were fired. Yet this is the scenario that happens most, weapon is present in self defense, no shots fired, lives saved. These stories need to be told more because the media and leftist ignores them. They don't want the truth about guns SAVING lives, just the bloody ugly stuff that forwards their agenda.

  6. Good call by not running after him. Sometimes when the blood is up, folks don't think it through and start making bad decisions. That night Mr. GnG protected his family with a firearm without firing a shot, and ended the night with little more than some door damage. No fatalities, no lawsuits by the perp's family – the best outcome you can hope for without the criminal running into a patrol car as he sprinted from your door. Thanks for the walk through and decision-making points.

  7. I imagine that if someone breaks in Mrgunsandgear would look like "The Mask" pulling out a handful of weaponry in each hand waiting for the burglar to take his first step inside.
My PSA AR9 with a 50rd drum is my home defense gun.

  8. From what I've heard, all you had to do was use a double barrel shotgun. Shoot two shots out the back door and all your troubles would have been solved………….Uncle Joe told me so.

  9. Living in a shit neighborhood (ie- gang violence is ramping up and I’m familiar with hearing gun shots at night as well as having experienced a drive by targeting my next door neighbor) I’m armed until I go to bed. My wife and oldest step daughter know how to use an AR. I just heard another gun shot as I typed this. Glad we’re finally moving soon.

  10. Damn Mike, sounds like a good training experience, and that you handled yourself well. Glad you didn't have to cook one off and drop someone, but at the same time…I'm sorry you didn't get to cook one off and drop someone. When something plays out like it did for you, I think about the next person who may have been victimized, and maybe did not come away so lucky as you did.

  11. No home is complete with out an AR15, AR-10, AK47, AK74, .45acp pistols, .40 pistols , 9mm pistols, .357 pistols, M240 SAW, M249 SAW, RMRs, Acogs, Surefire flash light, DBAL, NVG, Ballistic Vest & Kevlar, Tons of Ammo, Streamlight, H&K MP5 & last of all No Home Is complete the spirit of Chesty Puller & Mad Dog Mattis!!!! Lol

  12. Glad everything worked out in the end. It's amazing how many variables you can encounter in that kind of situation that you may or may not have thought about prior. Definitely has me thinking a little more about how I would approach this situation in my house.

  13. Our house was broken into 2 weeks after moving in. We were away and all they took was cash. No kids, so firearm security wasn't on my mind. They could have made off with all but my carry pistol. Tought me to lock up all my non defense guns more lights and got a security system.

  14. You said you have exterior lighting and an alarm system, but isn't it possible for someone to just break a window and acess the door knobs ,if that person is commited …?
