Two suspects who traded gunshots with a Wabash Trail homeowner Wednesday used the victim’s stolen keys to enter the house.
Amarion Meeks, 16, and Tyree Tillman, 20, used the keys, which were stolen along with the victim’s car days earlier, to enter the home at about 3:40 a.m., according to the Tallahassee Police Department.
Both men were charged with attempted murder and burglary with assault Friday morning. The Tallahassee Democrat identifies juveniles when they are charged with serious crimes.
Court records indicate that two other men, who have not been charged, also were involved in the home invasion.
TPD Spokesman Damon Miller could not comment on whether more arrests were expected, despite a second person being hospitalized with gunshot wounds likely from the home invasion.
The homeowner saw the armed suspects in the kitchen, retrieved a rifle and fired 25 shots at Meeks and Tillman. They returned fire and fled in a stolen car. They left behind clothing, jewelry and a stolen gun.
A blood trail was noted leaving the house.
About an hour later, TPD responded to a report of someone suffering gunshot wounds on south Adams Street, who turned out to be Meeks. Police said when they questioned him at the hospital he lied, saying he was shot by an unknown assailants as he walked down the street.
A stolen car was recovered later that morning near Tillman’s home. Inside officers found blood and spent shell casings that matched ones found at the Wabash Trail house.
Inside Tillman’s house, investigators found property stolen in other burglaries, ammunition and two handguns, one of which was stolen.
A third man, Jaylin Baldwin, was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon during the search.
