Next week, the Louisiana House is scheduled to consider pro-gun legislation, House Bill 281 and House Bill 235.  Please contact your state Representative and urge them to support these important measures when they come up for a vote.

House Bill 281, sponsored by Rep. Blake Miguez, removes vague language in Louisiana’s existing preemption statute to prevent a patchwork of laws throughout the state that could potentially and unknowingly turn a law-abiding gun owner into a criminal.  It is important to note that this bill does not change the places that are currently prohibited under state law. For example, state law prohibits carrying in a parade or demonstration for which a permit is issued by a governmental entity.

House Bill 235, sponsored by Rep. Beryl Amedee, adds a place of worship to justifiable use of force or violence in self-defense. This would apply Louisiana’s current self-defense protections to law abiding citizens that exercise their right to self-defense in a place of worship.

Again, please contact your state Representative and urge them to SUPPORT House Bill 281 and House Bill 235 when they come up for a vote.
