This Nikon riflescope is designed for shooters who demand pinpoint precision at a variety of distances, but especially those who are playing the long-range game. There are several configurations to choose from in the Black X1000 family of riflescopes; I’ve been shooting the 4-16x50SF version, which hosts a wide range of magnification for practical hunting scenarios, and a big objective lens to allow maximum visibility at dawn and dusk. The “SF” stands for “second focal plane,” so the reticle appears to stay the same fine size at all magnification levels for precise bullet placement on all types of targets—from paper bull’s eyes to compact pronghorn lungs. With its reticle in the second focal plane, be sure you’re dialed up to maximum magnification if you choose to use the reticle subtensions for bullet drop compensation or other measurements.
