The lower has the aluminum insert for two reasons. One of which is to strengthen the load-bearing part of the lower, but also to comply with the Undetectable Firearms Act. Due to this legislation, firearms (legally the receiver) is required to contain a certain amount of non-removable metal so that it shows up on metal detectors.

Very cool. I built an 8.5 inch 300blk from PSA. The kit came with the brace and was right at $300. Add a $50 Anderson lower and I've got a kickass AR pistol that I thought I would never own. The brace made me a buyer !! Hard to beat.
