I just switched over my A-2 stock on a 2001 Bushmaster XM to a collapsible. I noticed the tube had a notch in it and I followed the instructions in the video without paying attention to it (the notch in the buffer tube.) Everything worked fine until I heard a ratting sound in my upper and the charging handle did not work. I took it apart and everything popped loose. It took me about 4 hours to find the buffer tube detent springs and plastic sleeve that went over it. What I had failed to do. is to keep turning the tube until the pointed tip of the sleeve was well within the notch. I had pretty much given up on finding the springs so I ordered some extras from Amazon for $11. Of course right after I did that I found them.
That was the straight forward and simple demonstration I was looking for. I just bought a Magpul stock and now I know I need to buy the commercial tube kit. Installation should be easy. Thanks.

You're pronouncing detent wrong. It's De-Tent not De-Taunt. Had me cringing the whole time.
yes.
One word of advice, give it a light oil. That spring could use some lubrication. Any moving part of an AR needs light oil.

your video is being used in a gun article on MYTimes DOT COM by Erica Goode on 12/16/12
Can you use blue threadlocker on the tube threads instead of staking?
This is a very good video. I'm replacing the buffer tube and buttstock today, and this was extremely informative.
