Charging handle would not pull back. Out of all the things I tried. I used a flathead screw driver and it worked! If you guys know what probably happened or parts of the gun I should check. By all means please comment below! Thank you for watching and God Bless!

  1. I have a similar problem with my charging handle not pulling out. But I soon found the culprit. It was my stock!! With the stock pushed all the way in, it wouldn’t allow the charging handle to pull out. So my fix was to extend stock. I will be purchasing a lower profiled stock in the near future

  2. Mine did the same in basic during a night fire event and I got pissed never got to shoot the weapon didnt fire so I pulled the sports method still nothing weapon then locked as I attempted to charge it and my drill sgt came over and I guess did the mortar method you speak of and James the back into the concrete thennatempted to charge it and slimed it again and he got it to charge

  3. Thanks brotha mine just jammed up using a bullet laser to sight in after I pulled out my round I noticed gunk build on my gas tube mabe that or cheap aluminum from the bullet casings thanks again u helped me in a jam…. haha no? Alright haha later brotha

  4. I had the exactly same problem and tried mortaring it till my hands were sore. I tried the flathead screwdriver technique you described and it worked 100%. Thank you sir, you have saved me so much time and pain, you don't even know.

  5. Hey idk if you found the issue yet but I just did. My rifle had the same problem as yours, which is not anything related to the buffer as many comments below are saying. Likely, your gas key is getting locked up on the gas tube and/or the teeth on the front of your BCG are getting stuck when engaging the breach. Try using a fine metal brush or something thin and hard to clear out some carbon build up from inside your gas key and then lube the interior with a VERY LIGHT amount of oil. Also lube up the teeth on your BCG. Then gently push/pull in and out on the BCG when you feel it getting tight on that gas tube so the lube can do its job. Totally freaked out for a minute but mine is 100% fine now with no replication of the issue. Hope this helps!

  6. I can pull the charging handle and put one in the chamber but when i go to eject it it take a little strength to actually get the shell out its well lubricated but I dont know what the problem can be.

  7. Thanks for the tip. It worked well. I had an aftermarket charging handle that looked like yours and mine was defective. If you have a caliper measure the tip from bottom to top. If it is less than 14.8 millimeters it is no good. Mine was 14.0 and jammed everything up bad.

  8. I believe that your head space is of, when you charge the battery and let it fly into battery the force is causing the bolt head to try and lock in place ,which it does but when you try to pull back on the charging handle it is stuck because the locking lugs are not going in freely. Charge your weapon then do the trick with the screwdriver and see if there is any undue wear on the locking lugs, if there is than you found your problem. I speak from experience. Good luck.

  9. Check that the BCG is not catching on the locating washer in the front of the buffer tube. This happened to me once after installing an after market stock for a client. In that instance is was because the washer was not to spec.
If it's sticking at the other end, the bolt is sticking in the carrier…. possibly broken gas rings….

  10. Have a 15 S2 and was merry Christmas. Worked flawlessly, I noticed a few differences in yours and my rifle I thought, is this the OG or the sport 2? I took mine down and ? It’s magically got a 3mm fail. Won’t accept the factory charge or BCG. I cleaned all To a great length and (sorry I’m not using a screwdriver when S&W has a warranty. Also have you changed the rail or BCG? Any help is useful and especially on a great working gun! * stay away from steel Tula*

  11. Brand of carbine?
    Brand of charging handle?
    Brand of buffer tube?
    Type of bolt carrier?
    Brand of bolt carrier?
    Brand of bolt?
Sounds like you have out of spec parts.
Have you tried a different charging handle?

  12. i dont know the name of it….but the big nut that connects the gun to the buffertube was too tall for my latch according to the gunsmith and it fixed the issue when he filed it down slightly.

  13. Heard what sounded like 5 or 6 22 rounds go off outside my apt door. I mean right outside. Concerned, because I have an upstairs neighbor, druggie, that talks all kinds of crap like going in the Special Ops for the Army. He said he has a bachelors degree but is enlisting in 2 months. Almost daily tells me he smokes dope. I saw him fired up on something a few times and it did not seem like Happy Smoke. Said he was a State Police Officer before but working Counter Narcotics for the City and County. Then said he was going to get in the Navy and become a Navy Seal. Also said, while he was performing Counter Narcotics he was shot by a drug dealer. Guy was just full of shit. Made remarks about getting some guns but would not disclose the source etc…. All the indications pointed to something illegal or he again was bullshitting. Just a BIG OLE bullshitter. Found out he had a underage drinking DUI, arrested for property damage underage drinking and failure to appear. I asked my friend, a retired Sheriff of the county, about him and he said the guy would have never, ever been a police officer in this State because one cannot be a police office in this state even with a misdemeanor. This guy disappeared for a few weeks and when talking to my other neighbor, she said he was in a substance abuse center for 30 days which was a 5 hour drive away. When he returned I never spoke to him except an occasional hello in passing. That said when I heard those sounds I thought this guy might just be drugged up and shooting somebody or something. It really sounded as if he was firing right outside our door. I did not look through the peep hole in fear if a round came through the door either my wife or I would have been hit. About 30 seconds or so passed and I heard what appeared to be 3 or 4 more rounds going off but not outside my door. I glance outside my window and there was nothing out of the ordinary. Then I thought the second round could be another apt so I went to grab one of the two AR-15's I build last June, in fear Hillary was getting elected, to protect my wife and myself in case this guy was going crazy on people. After calling the apt complex I asked them if they knew anything which they did not. I asked if they have maintenance in the area and she said no. Then she said they might be installing fire extinguishers outside but not sure. Things seemed quiet outside now. i checked through the peephole and no one was there. Quietly I undid the chain and turned the bolt lock, opened the door and there sat what appeared to be a shell casing of a 22 cal. I close the door quietly and locked it. Called the apt complex and told them what I had saw and then while on the phone they called maintenance on the radio. They were in fact installing fire extinguishers and using a tool that uses blank 22 rounds as the force to drive hangers into the block wall in between the two apartment on my side in our breezeway. I was relieved but when I went to unload my AR-15 it was stuck just as you mentioned in your video but I had a round in mine. I thought about prying it lightly with a screwdriver as you mention but decided to go ahead and do it after viewing your video. Everything was fine, function checked ok. The bolt assembly within the bolt carrier group was twisting with resistance. Come to find out it was just tight! I have never shot either AR yet and I guess I need to get to a range to loosen them up a bit. Thank for the video post and the response you received. By the way, my crazy ass neighbor is moving next month. 🙂

  14. I've got similar problems with a .458 SOCOM upper, and the charging handle is part of the problem. Those stock El Cheapo $15 charging handles that come with the rifle suck ass and lock the BCG into the barrel even without a round in it. My $85 Raptor charging handle seems to be looser fitting and doesn't lock the BCG into place, but still doesn't solve the problem completely.

I need to find some headspacing gauges for .458 SOCOM to see if that's the problem.

The only other thing I can think of is the gas rings in the bolt, I think they might be too tight and are not allowing the bolt to unlock from the lugs. They're lubed up but it still might be too tight.
