The CMMG Anvil in 458 Socom

At the 4th Annual Iraqveteran8888 shoot I was able to talk to Von Davis at CMMG about their latest rifle, the Anvil, in .458 Socom. He explained why there isn’t any “official” load data available and how their rifle may change that. It uses the very robust size bolt and carrier as the Mutant. Oh, and corbon has reintroduced their .458 ammo for the CMMG Anvil only.

  1. CMMG is pushing a line of BS to sell rifles. Go on the .458socomforum and find out the truth. The original guys that designed and built the .458socom from scratch are on there. Corbon couldn't figure out how to make .458socom ammo that was not over pressure in both the licensed reamer and reverse engineered PTG reamer from gun to gun that is why they have the "CMMG Anvil Only" ammo. They had nothing but issues with old batches of their .458 ammo and had to recall it. CMMG got with Corbon to push their rifles and it worked for Corbon because they could figure out how to load with one rifle manufacturer and their bastardized reamer. The AR15 platform and bolts hold up fine. Going to the .308 sized platform basically defeats the purpose of the .458, to be compatible with the common AR15 platform. FYI there is plenty of load data for the .458 if you know where to look, ramshot is even publishing it now. Don't believe everything a salesman tells you.

The .458soc data was given to SAAMI some time ago but SAAMI has been dragging their feet for a long time now getting it approved.
