Pistol braces have one thing in common, either they are heavy or only fit on heavy receiver extensions. Even the tiny Maxim and strike shortened PDW braces total something like 20oz(including endplate, castle nut, action spring, and a lighter than standard buffer)
more perspective:
MFT minimalist(5.8oz) + V7 receiver extemsion(3.5oz) is about 9.3oz,
the SBA3 brace comes in at 6.75 oz so on an ACI CF tube($99, 2.5oz) would be ~9.25oz
Smoke composites are some of the lightest on the market, fixed stocks(receiver extension included) start at 3.9oz and go up to 5.0oz
So in saving a few grams over the KAK Shockwave Blade I opted for the SB tactical mini brace(100% unmodofied) and a modified pistol tube. For 7.4oz, being that I am running a carbine action spring, H buffer, steel castle nut and endplate that makes it ~14.4oz with room to save some ounces.
You would think an injection molded product with a triple digit MSRP would atleast get the sharp edges broke before sent out of the factory… right? I would be pissed if I paid anywhere near that suggested retail price. But unbroken edges are one of the ways American companies cut corners to maximize profits and pay themselves, the tax man and their spoilt employees.
edit this brace weighs 3.9oz compared to the advertised 4.0oz. I don’t have a scale that reads to a higher resolution over 50 grams so….
