The 300 BO has 50% more energy at those ranges. Meaning the 556 at 500 yards is equal to the BO at 750 yards. I will build a 223 Wylde upper and a 762 x 39 upper, since those will be the most likely surplus rounds after an "Incident". I bought an Olympic Arms AR15A2. I just duct taped a small, white flashlight to it and it works.

Another great thing about the AR platform is the fact that you can have quite a few uppers chambered in different calibers and quickly swap em out with the press of two pins. I mean 7.62×39, .300AAC, 6.5 Grendel, .223, 5.56 just to name a few, and even pistol calibers with a mag well adapter.
