The U.S. Senate debate between Marsha Blackburn and Phil Bredesen in 3 minutes
Nashville Tennessean

The only time you see Phil Bredesen get excited about hunting is when he campaigns for public office. In fact, the only time it’s hunting season for Bredesen seems to be during campaign season.

The seasonal hunter recently took part in a hunting photo-op, then tweeted the photos along with the message, “if you’re an avid sportsman like I am, join Sportsmen/Sportswomen United for Bredesen.”

But this “avid sportsman” hasn’t had a combo hunting and fishing license since 2006, when he was campaigning for his second term as governor. His current license was obtained only recently — just in time for the midterms.

It’s no surprise, since Bredesen’s record proves that he’s just another gun-grabbing Democrat.

For instance, the Democratic candidate is running deceptive campaign ads touting an “A” rating from the National Rifle Association. The only problem is, that rating is 16 years old. This year, Bredesen earned a “D” rating from the organization for turning his back on Tennessee gun owners.

The outdated rating was even flagged by the NRA, which issued a statement correcting Bredesen’s claims and demanding a formal retraction of the campaign ad.

“As governor, Phil Bredesen vetoed protections for concealed carry permit holders and opposed allowing law-abiding Tennesseans to carry a firearm for self-defense in the manner that best suits their needs,” the NRA noted.

“He supports criminalizing private firearm transfers between lifelong friends and many family members,” the group added. “He also supports a federal gun database and refuses to oppose burdensome and unnecessary restrictions on ammunition.”

Bloomberg versus Blackburn

But if you still need more proof Bredesen does not support the Second Amendment, he recently attended a New York fundraiser hosted by the king of gun control, Michael Bloomberg. Bredesen jetted off to raise money with America’s most notorious gun grabber on Oct. 9.

Frankly, Bredesen’s deceptive advertising is an insult to Tennessee voters. His cynical manipulation of the facts is a clear indication that he will back the radical liberal agenda of Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi.

Luckily for Tennessee, Bredesen’s Republican opponent, Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, has a proven track record of defending our Second Amendment rights.

She voted for the Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act of 2015, backed the Veterans 2nd Amendment Protection Act, and co-sponsored the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017.

The NRA backs Marsha Blackburn

Blackburn is endorsed by the NRA in her Senate race, and has pledged to continue to fiercely defend Tennesseans’ constitutional rights from Chuck Schumer’s radical left-wing, anti-individual liberties agenda.

Blackburn has clearly established herself as a consistent defender of the U.S. Constitution who is ready to back her words with actions. The same can’t be said of Phil Bredesen, who will only back the Democrat establishment if he gets elected to Congress this November.

“Bredesen will vote against Tennessee values in Washington,” the NRA warned.

“He will kowtow to the gun control elitists and support Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi’s anti-freedom agenda. His new ad is a shameful attempt to fool the voters in his home state, and NRA members won’t be fooled.”

Do not be deceived by Bredesen’s theatrics during the campaign season — vote for a candidate who will oppose, not join, the gun-grabbing Democrats in Washington.

State Senator Mike Bell, R-Riceville, represents Bradley, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe and Polk Counties. He is the founder of the Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus in the Tennessee General Assembly.
