The U.S. Senate debate between Marsha Blackburn and Phil Bredesen in 3 minutes
Nashville Tennessean
“Policy wonk.” “Centrist.” Those are the words Phil Bredesen uses to run away from the Democratic party label in this year’s election.
But voters should keep in mind the phrase “they know you by the company you keep.” That wise old saying came to mind when I read that Bredesen would be jetting off to New York for an Oct. 9 fundraiser hosted by America’s Number One gun control advocate and liberal loudmouth, Michael Bloomberg.
Bloomberg does not just fund the gun control movement, he attacks anyone who supports Second Amendment rights.
In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, he said “If you want to have a gun in your house, I think you’re pretty stupid – particularly if you have kids.”
Coming from a supporter of taxpayer-funded abortion, that’s a pretty ironic statement. But it’s just fine with Phil Bredesen.
Parallels between the ex New York mayor and ex Tennessee governor
As mayor of New York City, Bloomberg became famous for the “soda tax” he implemented. But he also raised the city income tax, property tax and hotel tax. He still ran up huge deficits that he paid down by raiding the pension and health insurance funds of retired city workers.
He and Bredesen share that tactic in common. As governor, Bredesen raided hundreds of millions of dollars from the state road fund. Remember that the next time you’re sitting in traffic on I-65, I-24 or I-40.
What is less well known about Bloomberg is the crude and demeaning comments he frequently makes about women. I would not ask a newspaper to reprint any of his vulgar quotes but an internet search will show you plenty of examples.
He is a man who does not respect women in any way. Yet Phil Bredesen publicly announced a fundraiser where Bloomberg is the guest of honor. Bredesen simply does not share — or care about — traditional Tennessee values.
Why I am making the case for Marsha Blackburn as U.S. senator
Bloomberg embodies everything that is wrong with modern liberalism: he doesn’t believe you should have the right to own a gun for self protection, he personifies the job-killing tax and spend philosophy and, like his friend Harvey Weinstein, his comments about women are vile.
Most Tennesseans would be ashamed to be in the same room with Michael Bloomberg. Bredesen knows this. That’s why the fundraiser was in New York, not Tennessee.
The Democrat plan for control of the U.S. Senate runs through Tennessee. If elected, Bredesen would constitute the 51st vote of the Democrat majority. In a very real way, Tennessee voters will choose Second Amendment rights or gun control; judges who follow the constitution or judges with a radical left-wing agenda; tax cuts or tax increases.
On Nov. 6, I encourage you to vote for the candidate with Tennessee values – vote for Marsha Blackburn.
Tennessee Sen. Jack Johnson, R-Franklin, is chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee and represents Williamson County in the State Senate.
