  1. I shot a Faxon ARAK-21 yesterday and started researching and talking to some friends and although I'd already seen the Mutant before, I hadn't looked into it much. .

I'm curious as to whether you'd go with the Mutant or ARAK-21 ? The one I shot had a nice lower with Hiperfire trigger and pretty standard Magpul furniture for $1500. Thoughts?

  2. Very informative. Have one on order and shipping to my ffl as we speak! Couple questions tho…. what did u zero your mbus to? Would you recomend this for a cqb rifle or maby past 300 yards? Are the accs reticle worth investing into?

  3. I'm struggling between the Mutant and an Arsenal AK. Is the Mutant better than a high end AK in terms of accuracy, reliability, etc.? With the advent of the Geissele AK trigger, Magpul AK furniture, and other AK centric accessories does the Mutant lose some of its advantages against a traditional AK?

  4. This rifle was designed from the ground up for the 7.62×39?  Not quite!  This rifle suffers from the same flaw that other 7.62×39 conversions like the Rock River & Sig 556 do-the lack of combat iron sights calibrated for the 7.62 round.  The flip-up sights we see on these rifles are made for   fast flat  shooting 223 rounds, totally not suitable for the slow curved 7.62.  So equipped the range is limited to 100 200 yards, no better than an AK/SKS.  I find it amazing the factories didn't think this out before production & that of the 20 gun reviewers who have tested this rifle in print & the web don't notice this flaw!!!  Buyer beware!

  5. Great review, I picked up one of these this past week. One thing that I saw people complain about was the size of the charging handle catch. I was able to install a badger ordnance catch on mine this evening with no modification. Hope this helps out with anyone that might be looking for a solution.

  6. You mention the barrel is midlength gas, but it is a carbine length gas system according to CMMG from what i recall. Also you mention the bolt carrier is 8620 and bolt us 9310 steel, chrome lined – but is the outside finish just standard phosphate? Doesn't look to be SBN.

  7. I'm a little disappointed that it isn't a piston system like an AK.  My reason for feeling this way is that the ammo is probably going to shoot very dirty and all that crap is going to go back into the chamber, bolt/upper receiver.

  8. I wouldnt really want to count that 1,000 round test as a reference point because that was alot of rounds in one shooting session thats aside is this cmmg mutant mk47 one of your favorite rifles or no..thanks for the great reviews you are just a class act kind of guy on YouTube thanks brother..

  9. Great video. This rifle has me interested but then again I haven't looked into many 7.62×39 in AR platforms. I think it should run on piston gas system instead just to keep things more simple . I think what attracts me and other people to this design is mainly the widened accessories market cuz of the rails and stock options. I would love to run a scope and irons at the same time on this 7.63×39 design . As far as accuracy , I had an arsenal slr 101s that was sick accurate up to 300yd and it was scoped with a $80 BSA tactical on a MI side mount and a Tapco ak74 muzzle . So like u said , it's the shooter. If I find something like this that's runs on piston and a 3g trigger. …yeah, buddy I'm getting it…lol

  10. hmmmm…shit looks hot.  pricey, though.  interesting that there's not an AR-style bolt catch/release.  i imagine this is not interchangeable with AR uppers?  so there'd be no point in selling the lower separately…shame.  and GOOD GOD that bolt is burly @_@

  11. Why would anyone buy this? They didn't adopt any aspects of the AK that make it run so well. It's basically an overpriced AR that takes AK mags. For the same money you can literally buy an actual AK and a quality AR.

Both rifles are a give and take you simply can't merge the two systems. The AR is flawed by DI but that also lightens the rifle and helps control recoil as there isn't a huge chunk of steel slamming back and forth. Flip side the AK runs so well because of the piston. At the cost of weight and follow up shots.

  12. Great idea but one big mistake. This rifle is direct gas impingement. It is not what I would want at the asking price. Steel ammo in a DI gun? No, I will stick with my AK47. CMMG made a mistake with the DI system. This should be a piston system. Too bad. I am no longer buying any more DI guns because this system is just not the best choice. Piston system only.
