  1. If you don't have a stabilized rangefinder. just take multiple readings as you shake and you'll get very close to the actual range. 5 readings in less than 5 seconds is the ticket.

    Cheers from Bill 🙂

  2. Eric just as a heads up, your range finder calculates the horizontal travel distance of the projectile as measured parallel to the earths surface assuming a perfect sphere. So imagine a right triangle where the slope that you are shooting up/down is the hypotenuse, or the (c) leg of the triangle. Your range finder calculates the (b) leg of the triangle which is the leg opposite the hypotenuse and is the actual distance over ground in which gravity is acting on the projectile and the projectile is dropping. It would be like if you set up a 30 foot tall podium on the firing line of your local range and then set a target on the 100 yard line. If you climb to the top of your podium with your AR and took a shot at the target the distance between the muzzle of your gun and the target would actually be more than 100 yards but your range finder will still range your target at 100 yards because the actual distance over ground that gravity is acting on your projectile is only 100 yards. Its crazy but true! Also folks not all range finders have the incline feature like Eric's does and many will give you the exact yardage between the range finder and target. Then it's up to you to find your own incline and do a bunch of algebra (PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM) to figure out true range.

  3. Bought a Nikon range finder in 2016, and it is pretty nice, and is supposed to be good out to over 1000 yards. Doesn't seem to be affected by the shakes in any way that I have seen. Now I know how far all sorts of stuff is in my yard from the back door. I agree, a shooter should be able to have a ball park idea of how far something is away from them without any tools.

  4. thats some north east montana style wind

    except….it NEVER stops blowing here
few miles south of us, closer to the mountians…..the wind is so strong coming threw the pass that it blows over semi trucks (lewistown)

ive seen it go from light and variable…..to gusts to 80 in 5 seconds

a LOT of people got stuck out on the lake (its about the only lake in NE MT)

  5. Only $419.95 suggested Retail…… Heck of a price for the technology. 8-3000 yards on reflective targets…Per manufacturers specs. More reviews will tell. It picked out the 670 yard fence post. That is further than most people will ever shoot. Just don't ever range a Police Helicopter.

  6. Hi Eric, I'm posting from the UK, I could do with that rangefinder. I shoot, I'm getting old and I have the shakes you were talking about. I think it would definitely come in handy. Kindest regards.

  7. Can you turn off the inclination / declination compensation feature? I looked at their web site and don't see if you can turn that feature off. They say you can range an angle almost streight up. I was wondering of you could use it to estimate the distance of high flying birds ( though I don't know if that's even practical.)

  8. Nikon is awesome. I have a earlier model without the stabilization but it does have the inclinometer feature, use it for hunting and competitions, and it is dead on accurate and reliable. These new stabilized LRFs are the way to go IMO and I will definitely be getting one for this season.
