Lawful Defense Guns & Transfers in Gainesville, Florida have been friends of the Hank Strange Situation for a long time, and for a while both Hank and Lola Strange have wanted to build their own AR-15 Rifles. So Lawful Defense donated this Spikes Tactical Lower, they carry in their store, and Lola took on the first build, using a CMMG Lower Parts Kit. With the help of conveniently color coded bags CMMG provides in the package and a useful video (link below) Lola was able to assemble the lower for the first time, with only a few problems, the biggest of which was loosing the indent pin for the forward takedown pin.

  1. I'm looking to move to Gainesville in about a year. (my mother has been living there for about 5 years) I was wondering how the local Cleo is with NFA items. I don't care to get a machine gun or anything like that, but years of shooting almost daily have destroyed my hearing and I badly want to invest in a Sound suppressor so I can have a future with hearing. Living in Dirty Jersey right now, but they don't allow anything fun. Anyone having luck? I'm certain by the time I get out there trusts will have been ruined.

  2. Congrats on her first build awesome parts to. How did you get a spikes tactical lower receiver donated ? I interested in having my wife do the same thing as Lola. This will be her first build also I want her too also build the upper also I would like to have her build it on nothing but donated parts . I have no problems promoting sponsors or contributors of the project. If you can help me and my wife out that would be great she is just getting into firearms ..

  3. Congratulation! I've built my own AR15 with CMMG supply but the only different is i bought 80% lower and milled it out myself. I find it that 80% lower are more rewarding cause your really doing it from scratch. Brownells sell all kind of a AR15 tools cheaper.

  4. you guys are doing a fantastic job.  i began to watch you in your infancy of your endeavor. i think you guys do your homework and its great to see that you have passion for this.  as far as an upper blackriflearms.com give those guys a call i think you will be thoroughly please with their products. plus its a company in your neck of the woods.  Go Gators. Good luck to you both.

  5. Awesome job guys. Husband and wife making youtube gun videos together… what a great way to spend rime together. (And make a little money while your at it)

Its surprisingly easy to assemble a stripped lower. I bought a stripped M&P15 lower on 12/12/12. that was my first attempt at building. Still on the hunt for an upper.

  6. good for her. hank strange!! it's your turn now… if it were my lower. i would put a set screw behind the rear take-down pin detent spring. just so nothing couldn't get lost if you change the buffer tube later.

  7. Thanks guys for this most excellent vid. I will be doing my first lower assy. in a couple of weeks. Need to do the finish machining on my Ares Armor 80% first. I will use this and the CMMG video to keep me out of the weeds.

  8. Well done Lola, the only thing I did not notice in the video was the Mag release button installation did not seem tightened to flush with the button step.  Maybe it is not that important, but for myself I like the button flush with the screw.  All in all I was excited for you with your first build, its very cool that you both share this activity.  Thanks for taking the time.  Well Done.
