CMMG Mk47 First Impressions

Rob Pincus takes a look at the CMMG Mk47 and tests it out over the course of a couple of days at Ancient City Shooting Range. The Mk47 “Mutant” is a brand new rifle design that incorporates aspects of both the AR15 and the AK47 to put the 7.62×39 round into a rifle that feels and handles like an AR.
Unlike previous attempts in this arena, the Mk47 uses an AR10 sized Bolt and Bolt Carrier Group to ensure structural integrity of the bolt face, but the gun only weighs 7lbs and will accept an AR15 trigger, grip, stock, sights, optic and/or rail.
Pincus gives an overview of the gun and its operation, tests reliability and accuracy and discuses why the 7.62x39mm round is perfect for those wanting a .30 caliber AR Rifle.

  1. I think that ARAK 21 is the first in this and it's much better than this akm . I've shoot them both. Yes the ARAK21 is around 1,900$ but try for your self and you'll see the difference .

  2. Ar15 ergonomics
    Ak47 firepower

the only thing it needs is a piston system like the ak! ultimate reliable ar15!! but then again it would lean towards the heavy side alot more .. this is definately a cool rifle and it looks so sleak and tacticool.

  3. Hybrid? Barley a hybrid, only thing it borrows from the ak is the magazine's and bullet, last time I checked what made an ak reliable is not it's magazine. This is just an AR15, still has direct gas impingement, which I'm sure is going to be a concern with a bigger bullet, more gas and fouling, so this is less reliable than an ak or ar

  4. I enjoy watching your smart, detailed and no fluff reviews. I watched both your MK47 videos about a dozen times before dropping my money on the MK47.  Reliability, accuracy, and ammo availability are the critical factors that sold me on the MK47.  What sights were you deploying for short and long range on the MK47 during testing?

  5. I'm an "AK person", I thought about buying this but I have the M10X on order from M+M, however, it appears that M+M has raised the price significantly to where both the MK47 mutant and Sig 556XI Russian are both less expensive. the price on the M10X elite edition was $1,195.00 now according to their Facebook page its $1,550, in my opinion M+M just priced themselves out of the market, while the MX10 has some things going for it that the other two competitors don't like the ambidextrous side charging handle, I'm right handed anyway so that feature isn't that important to me, its piston driven which I'd prefer but since they are playing games on pricing I may just tell them to shove it when they become available which doesn't appear to be anytime soon, its looking like they won't be available for at least another 2 months, thats way off the mark that they quoted back in Jan, waiting 5-6 months for a rifle that was quoted being $350 LESS than what they are saying now just doesn't cut it for me. The Galil Ace is only $350 more than the M10X now, not a very smart move by M+M, unless they honor the price they quoted me when I placed the order with them I'll likely go with the CMMG Mutant now instead.

  6. Sorry folks but if it was designed from the ground up for the 7.62×39 round the rifle would have iron battle sights calibrated for the 7.62×39 ballistics.  It does not.  So the buyer must put either a red dot or flip-up sights calibrated for the 223–which will not work with the 7.62.  With the rifle sighted in at 100 yards it is useless past 200 yards. Until this flaw is fixed I say pass.

  7. I think CMMG and GIBBZ Arms should have gotten together on this build. I really like the idea of the CMMG MK47, but using a standard ar-15 charging handle isn't comfort for this setup. So check out GIBBZ side charger and CMMG MK47 and tell me it wouldn't work. Yes I understand it would be a completely different side charger than what is sold now but GIBBZ making an upper for MK47 lower sign me up as I already have 3 GIBBZ side chargers and they are beautiful aside from weight.

  8. i love the idea of the 762×39 and have owned 2 different AKs and i have sold both.  i just couldnt get into them.  love the AR platform but im not a fan of 300blkout.  so im pretty stoked about this rifle.  thanks for the excellent review.

  9. Lets see a 1k round torture test with various types of ammo and mags(consisting of Tula, Red army etc.). I bet is fails miserably…If you want a rifle chambered in 7.62×39, save your $$ and pick up an arsenal before you drop 1400+ on this thing. Also this is not an ideal SHTF rifle given it's built with a proprietary bolt assembly etc. It is cool? Sure it is…
