Nikon Coyote Special 4-14×40 Scope Review – Scout Hunter

I review a great scope for varmints, predators, or even deer/big game. The Nikon Predator is very clear, super durable, and just the right mix of price to performance. It is only 14oz so it doesn’t overwhelm handy little rifles like the Remington R-15 carbine.

  1. Nice review. I just received my 4-12×40 Coyote Special from Optics Planet for $199.95, free shipping. A day  after the purchase, I saw a store wide special for 10% off (grrrrrr!). When I looked through it, I was impressed with the image quality. At first, I was wanting it to have adjustable parallax, but for how I will use it the 100 yd parallax setting will be fine. I also like the generous 3.7" eye relief. At first, I did not like it because you sacrifice field of view, but changed my mind because of how well it positions on a bolt action. I LOVE the finger adjustable windage & elevation. The clicks are soft but positive, and when you have them set, you can pull the knobs up and "slip" rotate them to your zero setting. Even if you don't use that feature in the field, it's nice to know where your knobs are indexed and that they stay there. And, of course, I love the reticle on this one, which is what made me want one in the first place.  FYI, it found it's home on a Savage Model 10 Predator Hunter (.223) in matching Warne Mossy Oak brush rings. I'll let you know how it goes when I take it into the field.
