We have received allot of questions in regards to .22 LR conversion kits for the AR15 weapon system. This is a brief overview and will have a full comparison with a designated .22 LR Upper as this seems to be the most popular question.

I have one and put around 700-800 rounds through it in a day. I bought 1000 rounds and shot the majority of it but I didnt count. Anyways I had about 4 malfunctions through the whole session. They seemed like extraction issues. While this is just a training gun so its not vitally important that it be reliable, its not quite as reliable as something like a 10/22. However in return you get much more familiarity with your rifle rather than shooting a 10/22 or something. These things are great IMO.
edit: I forgot to mention it was in 20 degree weather
Are there Brands of the .22LR which tend to not cycle through the AR-15 to .22LR conversion well?
Based on your experience can you recommend some brands of .
22LR Â that you have used that work well? Â thank you
Did you guys ever follow up to this video?
I like my CMMG conversion works like a charm.
I never knew Wolf made .22!
Pretty good accuracy still though,Great video.
I don't particularly care for the mag that comes with it. The black dog drum mag has been pretty awesome, I only have only had issues when I run soft lead nose tipped .22lr since they can be deformed easily when you rapid fire.
naaw they were mini mags and wolf… both ends of the spectrum
What type.of rounds for 22. Anything special
I got ya, I soaked it the night before with FireClean, Goes in feeling dry but it is lubed 🙂
i didnt see you grease the rails and it looked dry,.
Just out of curiosity how did you come to the conclusion I did not use lube?
There is a link to the article that went along with this video where i address everything you are talking about. Not sure how you are able to tell if I put it in dry but that is not correct. I had conditioned it with FireClean the day prior. I am well aware that lubricant is needed for a firearm to function it's best 🙂
I have a similar unit. I noticed you put that in there DRY. If you don;t lube the rails on the conversion of course it is going to jam! I use grease. Use anything just not dry! Also your hammer takes more of a pounding,. grease that too.
Don't forget your gas tube will clog up IF you don;t clean it/fire a regular 5.56 round through every 250-500 rounds! I hose mine out with brake cleaner. then compressed air if i cant. Cleaning the BCG is a pain in the ass just for 1 shot.
Nope, CMMG. The one that came in the package.
Is it a blackdog magazine? had a similar issue.
I have one & I can't fully load the mag. If I do the 1st round falls out under no tension, seems once I get past about 20 rounds the spring gets funky in the mag & I have issues, therefore I just load 20. I only have 1 mag & maybe my mag is bad but it seems to function with only 20 rounds loaded.
Yup, mine has paid for itself 2 times over now!
Yeah we are in the process of getting the designated upper built, see how it works out!
Yeah I found a place that had the CMMG mags in stock for $24.95 and bought from them, right now they are impossible to find.
Love it!
Not sure, have not used theirs before. The construction is identical just looking at images of it. I put a request in for one to see if we get any different results
If you do not clean it often yes. the diameter difference for the ammo is .002 so it is not a huge difference but can cause lead deposits in the barrel which you would want to make sure you clean. If you clean the barrel after a good day at the range I wouldn't suspect it would alter the lifespan of the barrel at all.
Edward, most of the malfunctions happened with Wolf 22 ammo. The CCI had 0 failures but the test group was small as I only shot 100 rounds of it.
Yes most of the failures actually happened while shooting slowly. It actually seems to perform better when shooting rapidly to be honest lol
I have the same kit, and I love mine. I have saved enough in ammo to pay for a half dozen of them at least. Also it runs almost flawlessly. Slick. Great review. Thanks.

I have a cmmg kit it works great. For me its a great way to get some trigger time with a good optic than can cost alot if u had to buy another for a dedicated upper.
Thats not a bad group at all. I have the dedicated upper and love it. I really like the cheap black dog mags. As recommended by Nutnfancy a long time ago.
Mine works great
Does it function equally well with standard velocity ammo compared to high velocity?
Any failures when shooting slower?
is there even a slight chance you would hurt the barrel?
How would this compare to the WMD kit?
