CMMG Mutant, 100% reliability with 3 simple mag tweaks

After studying the failures to feed with my surplus mags, I’ve figured out 3 simple tweaks to get them 100% reliable. It isn’t hard to do so you can do it yourself. I’m pretty excited to be the first person to figure out what I believe is 99% of the failures to feed for the mutant! Modify your mags. one at a time and don’t overdo it!

  1. I've passed these tweaks on to several skeptics about the platform. Turned them into owners. First saw your video before I purchased it in October.

I myself have around 800 rounds through mine and 0 malfunctions out of the tweaked mags. Only 2 failure to feed but with the magpul mag it came with.

As much bias as I have for the AK the mk47 is by far my favorite rifle. Just that muscle memory from service I guess.

I understand many expect full function out of the box but this is a hybrid. Works well with newer mags but the draw for many of us is the ability to use our ak mags/drums. Just put in a little work and you're good to go without having to reload the same mag over and over

  2. I'm having problems with almost all of my mags on my new Mutant, including Magpul. The magazine seems to sit too high. The bolt is dragging on the rounds in the magazine so bad that I can't even get a single round to go into battery on some of the mags. In my opinion, this rifle is worthless if you have to start cutting on your magazines. It's advertised as working with all AK mags. I have an email into CMMG, hopefully I can get them to do something about it…

  3. Not good enough. For what they are asking for it $ I expect it to work out of the box. And I expect it to work as reliably as an AK, if not better. I will pass on this rifle and shop elsewhere.

  4. For how much that gun costs they should change the gun you shouldent have to change your magazines…… unlike the mutant they were designed perfect

Kudos on getting your rifle running it's a pretty interesting gun

  5. Great job. I have found that this works on my Croatian manufactured mags to function flawlessly in my vepr rifles also. But I also deburr the feed lips in the complete opening of the tops of all my metal magazines, to keep feeding smooth and to keep the scratches and gouges off of my brass that I reload.

  6. Croatian Mags Are JUNK!!!! I bought a Package Deal Of 45 Croatian Mags For Like $150 And Out Of 45 Mags only around 18-20 Mags Worked… All With Varying Problems, Some Wouldn’t Lock in the Mag Well, Others Wouldn’t Feed either Properly or at all, Some Have Tolerance issues with the Guide Ramp And Spring.. Big Rip Off!!!

  7. Good that someone worked out a user-level solution to the issue. Although my personal opinion on the whole issue is that CMMG as a company that designs rifles and has a strong standing should have been a lot more thorough in designing a weapon that doesn't need a modified magazine in order to function flawlessly. Had they done a thorough testing phase then they would have found that issue long before it became clear to those that purchased.

  8. KUDOS Ginsboy. You portray with thought and action The American Way. If someone else wont do it right i will. beyond the magazines, that is perhaps your greatest lesson of all.

  9. From day 1, My mag won't seat in the mag well once there is a round in it. If the mag is empty, it fits, I've called CMMG 5 times & they keep saying someone will get back to me. I've sent 7 e-mails, No response. Worst customer service & product I've bought. I won't buy CMMG again.

  10. Awesome man!!! I was turned off from the psak47 and the mutant because of the issues. You were 100% correct that nobody bothered to look into it or mentioned what the possible issue would be in other reviews. Some reviews had 0 issues running them some that's all they complained about. I feel pretty comfortable purchasing the mutant now. Thanks a ton

  11. Great job for figuring this one out! I do have a very similar feeding problem with my MK47 but all of my mags are new Pmags. My MK47 is still new and only fired about 130 steel rounds with it. Any ideas?
